If you’ve been hunting for a pocket-friendly gaming laptop, we just might have the option for you, as we stumbled across the ASUS V16 gaming laptop with a decent price cut. Its asking price was $1,299.99 after the reduction, it’ll cost you $1,199.99, which is a good cost for an RTX 5060 and Intel Core 7 240H-powered machine. This hardware should deliver a good gaming and working experience.
It boasts a 16″ WUXGA 144Hz refresh rate display, which should be enough for gaming, but one crucial aspect to note is that it only has 512GB of storage. This might be a deal breaker for some, as this might not be enough for games and applications. So, keep that in mind before making your decision, as you’ll need to upgrade the storage later on.
ASUS V16 Gaming Laptop
- The RTX 5060 is perfect for 1080p and 1440p gaming
- The processor is a solid offering
- A decent 144Hz refresh rate display
- The storage is only 512GB
- The display will limit you to 1200p.
What this gaming laptop has to offer
To begin with, the primary components of this gaming laptop, the RTX 5060 and Intel Core i7 240H, make for an excellent pairing that shouldn’t give you any trouble when it comes to gaming or productivity. The RTX 5060 can easily handle 1440p gaming, but since this laptop has a 1920 x 1200 resolution (16:10 aspect ratio, you’ll be stuck with that. However, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it allows you to ramp up the graphics for a better experience, and you can leverage upscaling to enhance the output if it starts to fall short.

The processor has 10 cores, 16 threads, a 5.2 GHz boost clock speed, and a maximum TDP of 115W. This means that it has enough power to handle various demanding applications with ease. The core should get plenty of power if that is required, but otherwise it should remain very energy efficient, as the base power is only 45W. The battery should last longer when you’re handling basic tasks like documentation, watching movies, or browsing the web.
The biggest downside of this gaming laptop is its 512GB SSD, which will run out of space after the OS and maybe one or two games. So, that should be upgraded as a priority if you get this laptop, as that will cause issues. Besides that, the 16GB DDR5 RAM is decent for the price point and should be good enough to deliver good efficiency.
The main takeaway with this gaming laptop is that the hardware is good and should keep it light on your pocket, but you’ll have to spend more on upgrading the SSD. The good part is that since it is only compatible with PCIe 4.0 storage drives, the upgrade cost might not be as expensive as it would’ve been with a Gen5 SSD.
