Somewhat forgotten Ryzen 5 7600X relevant once again with new Amazon deal price
Table of Contents
The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X doesn’t get recommended much these days. That’s because the Ryzen 5 9600X is better. It’s a better-performing, more efficient CPU, yes. And yet price really matters in that conversation. A new Amazon deal has the Ryzen 5 7600X at $150. That’s around $24 cheaper than the 9600X, and at that deal price, we think the 7000-Series starter needs more attention. Because if $150 is your maximum processor spend, there are clear reasons to buy.

Why we’d pick the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
A capable gaming CPU
Honestly, the Ryzen 5 7600X is still more than adequate for a 1080p or 1440p gaming setup in 2026. The 6-core, 12-thread processor is a major step up from any Ryzen 3000 or Ryzen 5000 equivalent. And it will pair with modern midrange graphics cards. It’s not one of the best CPUs for gaming, but it’s really pretty solid.
Capable daily-use CPU
Again, if you’ve been used to, say, Socket AM4 Ryzen 5 performance, this CPU should blow you away. And while the 9600X is better, it’s not the huge step up you may think. The 9000-Series is largely more efficient compared to the 7000-Series. However, the 7000-Series is a different beast compared to the 5000-Series. The 7600X (as we reviewed in 2024) is a clear example.

Highly affordable Socket AM5 CPU
Of course, we were going to mention it: the Ryzen 5 7600X is a low-cost AM5 processor and opens up plenty of options for future drop-in upgrades. If you’re out of useful upgrades for Socket AM4 (or if you want a change from Intel), the Ryzen 5 7600X is the first step on a road littered with decisions about where your system grows (and we mean grows) next.
What to consider before you buy
The main barrier to switching to Socket AM5 is always the cost of building a new PC from scratch, specifically with DDR5 RAM, a new motherboard, and your new CPU. Second-hand parts can help (if you trust that approach), but you won’t need to worry about an overpriced CPU with this deal. The Ryzen 5 7600X is genuinely a capable and handy step up from older equivalents, and we think this price is very healthy for what it offers.
