Opting for a 48-inch OLED TV is a great idea if you’re looking for outstanding picture quality at a size that’s ideal for bedrooms, gaming rooms, or smaller living spaces. If you’re looking for something very high-end but for a great price, then I think this discounted Sony Bravia A90K could make a lot of sense. It’s currently at its lowest price ever on Amazon, with 29% off, coming in at $998.00. It’s a 2022 model, which certainly plays into its current pricing, but even though it’s a few years old, it’s still seriously impressive in its own right.

What you’ve got here is a premium OLED TV with a 120Hz refresh rate, advanced gaming features, extensive HDR support, and a notably impressive processor, in the form of Sony’s Cognitive Processor XR. This is one of the features that puts Sony TVs like this on another level, and it’s excellent if you’re looking to really get the most out of whatever you’re watching, regardless of the quality at its source.

As usual, I’ll break down more of this TV’s key features below, but in essence, this is the type of TV that’s going to deliver lifelike visuals, genuinely impressive enhancements for movies, sports, and more, and outstanding gaming performance for consoles like the PS5 and gaming PCs, all at a relatively compact and accessible size. At its current price, I’d say it’s well worth considering, and a smart alternative to some of the more recent and expensive 48-inch models on the market.

More standout features of this Sony Bravia 48-inch A90K OLED TV

Premium-tier processor

The Cognitive Processor XR brings a lot to the table, but here are a few notable functions it can perform. With XR 4K upscaling, it can take lower native resolution content and make it appear closer to 4K, which is ideal for watching content on streaming platforms. XR HDR Remaster makes SDR content look closer to HDR. XR Triluminos Pro helps colors appear broader, with more natural gradation, and XR OLED motion improves clarity in fast-moving scenes.

Extensive HDR support

This TV supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, and HLG. The most important of these for most people is Dolby Vision, which is Dolby’s most dynamic HDR format. Rather than slapping a fixed picture setting onto a movie or show, it can adjust settings scene-by-scene, or even frame-by-frame, to ensure the best HDR presentation possible.

Advanced gaming features, especially for PS5

This TV supports VRR to help reduce screen tearing and stutter, and also has ALLM, which automatically reduces input latency when it detects you’re using it for gaming.

Acoustic Surface Audio+

This is pretty unique, as the screen itself acts as part of the speaker, as it features actuators that vibrate to produce sound. It also features a 2.1-channel configuration with a dedicated subwoofer and supports Dolby Atmos for more immersive, spatial audio.

Is this TV right for you?

I’d say that this would be a great pick if you want serious Sony picture quality, HDR capabilities, and strong gaming features on a relatively small screen for a great price. For a gaming room, or a smaller living space as a main TV, I think it makes a lot of sense.

If it were me, I’d be keen to explore mini-LED options at the same size if I wanted very good picture quality and very strong gaming features. TCL and Hisense are good options in that regard. For smaller OLEDs, going for an older LG C2 model would also be a great shout, and you can usually find them for excellent prices as they’re also a few years old.
