Spacious 6TB external hard drive gets best price in two months on Amazon
Table of Contents
For reliable, large storage that you can take with you, external hard drives have long been a sensible option. However, recent price hikes affecting computer components haven’t left them untouched. That’s why it’s good to see that the WD 6TB Elements Portable is currently well below its elevated standard price on Amazon. The external hard drive offers USB 3.2 Gen 1 plug-and-play, and a huge 6TB of space for $260, a $60 (19%) drop from the stated list price.

Why we like the WD 6TB Elements Portable
Massive, cost-effective space
External hard drives may be less speedy and less glamorous than their solid-state cousins, but they offer large amounts of space for a (relatively) low cost. The 6TB of space available with this WD Elements Portable model is ideal if you often carry large files or large amounts of files with you – be that media files, backups, or other vital data; for example, 100 media files at 60GB each.
Easy to use on Windows or Mac
The 6TB Elements Portable is designed to be plug-and-play for Windows devices. Connect its SuperSpeed USB cable to a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (or later) port, and the drive will show up ready to use. That’s not to say you cannot use the drive with Mac devices (or computers running other OSes) but you will need to reformat it. Once complete, you have massive storage.

Steady speeds and portable
This external hard drive isn’t as fast as an external SSD drive, but you can expect up to 150MB/s read speeds and around 50MB/s write speeds. That’s pretty quick and should suffice for all but the most demanding needs. Additionally, it’s 6TB of space you can take with you. It measures 8 inches (L) x 3 inches (W) x 6 inches (Th), and weighs 44.8g (1.58oz).
What to consider before you buy
We’d consider the measurements of this drive, because your view of ‘portable’ may differ. However, it is a hard disk (not solid-state) drive, and we think it is a useful option – especially given the cost and the 6TB of space available. If your budget stretches well beyond this drive, you may consider a portable SSD, but the added speed will mean a hefty price. Or, if 6TB is too much storage, the WD Elements Portable also comes in a 2TB model – but it’s less good value at half the cost for a third of the capacity.
