The high-end AM5 processor, 5900XT has its price shaved by 17% in this Amazon deal

Table of Contents
While all eyes might be on the AM5 platform, which is doing great with the release of the Ryzen 9000X3D processors, the AM4 platform is still alive and kicking. Last year, AMD released the Ryzen 9 5900XT, which was the same as the Ryzen 9 5950X. The reason for the launch isn’t clear, but it could be that AMD wanted to get rid of the AM4 chips in stock.
That being said, this processor should deliver excellent productivity and gaming performance. Based on the AM4 platform, it has good value. However, with its price reduced by 17% during the Amazon Spring Sale, it is currently available for $289.99, whereas originally, it retailed for $349.

AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900XT
Why we like this deal
- Solid hardware: This processor has 16 cores and all of them are hyperthreaded, which means that it has 32 threads to work with. Besides that, it is unlocked for overclocking, so you can tune it to a higher frequency for better performance, but that will come at the cost of a higher power draw and more heat generation. However, this should be more than enough for gaming and other tasks without running into performance issues.
- Good boost clock speed: This CPU’s boost clock speed is 4.8 GHz, which means that it can handle 4.8 billion instructions per clock cycle, which is great. Overclocking can further increase that. This should result in good performance in whatever task you put in front of it.
- Massive L3 cache: Compared to Intel processors, AMD CPUs have a big L3 cache, and the 5900XT sports a 64MB L3 cache. This comes in handy during gaming or other workflows that can make use of a large L3 cache as more data can be stored on the chip and the CPU doesn’t have to call for the data or dedicate resources to fetch it, resulting in better efficiency and performance.
Who’s this deal for
This deal is excellent for someone who wants to upgrade for better productivity and gaming output but doesn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars to move to the AM5 or LGA 1851 platform, as that requires DDR5 RAM and a new motherboard. Due to the age of the AM4 platform, a compatible motherboard can be bought for cheap, and it is compatible with DDR4 RAM, which costs less than DDR5.
