There are no truly cheap SSDs around at the moment. But people still need to buy them. And if you need a boot or other-use SSD drive, the Biwin Black Opal NV7400 1TB may be the best option right now. The 1TB NVMe is now 14% off its typical (2026) price, direct from Biwin, making its $150 tag the lowest on Amazon since February. It’s a significant fall from the $185 seen at the end of June, and a little light relief for a solid option.

Why we like the Black Opal NV7400 1TB

The lower price

Plain and simple. The $150 this SSD costs right now appears to be the best we can find on Amazon from most any brand. That matters with the cost of components right now, because why spend more if you absolutely cannot? Yes, the Black Opal NV7400 is a solid NVMe, but the cost is the headline in a year beset by price hikes.

Speedy performance

Beyond the price, the Black Opal is actually a worthy SSD. Its maximum read speed of 7,450 MB/s and maximum write speed of 6,500 MB/s, combined with decent overall performance, put it in the middle of the pack. So you could use this DRAM-less SSD for any use where you don’t see consistently high data transfer rates. It’s not one of the very best SSDs for gaming, but it’s not bad either.

Decent TBW

The TBW (Terabytes Written) for this 1TB variant of the Black Opal NV7400 is 1000TBW. That means you should be able to write 1,000 TB of data to the drive before encountering errors. That’s a lot of data, so it’s very unlikely you’ll hit that limit in general use.

What to consider before you buy

There are two considerations here. The first is whether 1TB of storage is large enough for your needs. If it isn’t, the Opal does offer 2TB and 4TB variants, but they are not discounted, and the price increases relative to drive capacity. The second consideration is price in general. It’s really not a great time to buy an SSD. However, it’s unclear if prices will drop to late 2025 levels, and this is the best price for this drive in months. So the choice is yours to make.
