Key features and highlights of the LG 39GX Ultragear evo
Its headline feature is the combination of a 39-inch curved OLED panel and 5K2K (5120 x 2160) resolution. This gives you the vertical resolution of a 4K display but extends the image horizontally into a 21:9 ultrawide format, providing considerably more screen space for both gaming and productivity.
The 21:9 aspect ratio and 1500R curve are particularly useful on a monitor this large. The extra width expands your field of view in games that properly support ultrawide resolutions, which can make racing games, RPGs, simulators, and large open worlds feel much more immersive.

Resolution is another major advantage. At 5120 x 2160 and 143 pixels per inch, the 39GX can display much finer details than lower-resolution ultrawide monitors. Text, HUD elements, character models, and distant objects can all appear sharper. The high pixel density is also valuable outside gaming, as smaller text remains clear when browsing the web, writing documents, or working with multiple applications.
Running games natively at 5K2K can be extremely demanding on a graphics card, so LG has included AI Upscaling. The monitor’s built-in processor analyzes lower-resolution content and enhances it toward the panel’s native 5K2K resolution. Upscaling cannot create the same detail as a game being rendered natively at 5120 x 2160, but it can help lower-resolution sources look sharper.
The display itself uses LG’s 4th-generation Primary RGB Tandem OLED technology. Its four-stack RGB structure is designed to improve brightness, efficiency, color reproduction, and overall image quality. The display covers up to 99.5% of the DCI-P3 color space and has a Delta E of 2 or lower. LG also highlights UL verification for Perfect Black, Perfect Color, 100% Color Fidelity, and Perfect Reproduction.
Despite pushing such a high resolution, the 39GX still offers a 165Hz refresh rate. This means it can refresh the image up to 165 times every second, providing noticeably smoother movement than a conventional 60Hz display.
Is this OLED monitor worth getting?
The LG 39GX is worth getting if you want a monitor that can serve as both a premium gaming display and a massive high-resolution workspace. The 5K2K resolution, 39-inch curved OLED panel, 165Hz refresh rate, extremely high contrast, strong color accuracy, and AI upscaling make it particularly well suited to a powerful gaming PC or a combined gaming and creative setup.
The main consideration is hardware. Native 5120 x 2160 gaming requires substantially more GPU power than standard 1440p ultrawide gaming, so pairing a monitor like this with a high-end graphics card makes the most sense. It will also require plenty of desk space.
