If you’re new to PC gaming or looking to replace an old setup, the cost of new GPUs must seem bizarre. The new RTX 5070 Ti has an MSRP of $749 but is priced up to $1,000, while 5080 cards are priced from $1,200 to $1,500. The cost of one whole MSI Aegis Z2 Gaming PC? Now $1,050.

The Aegis Z2 system features an RTX 4060, which means you’re realistically looking at high-settings 1080p to mid-settings 1440p gaming. But crucially, you’re getting a whole AM5 system, with a mouse and keyboard, for that price. It’s also 16% drop from a list price of $1,250, saving you $200.

MSI Aegis Z2 Gaming Desktop

(2024): AMD Ryzen R7-7700, Geforce RTX 4060, 16GB DDR5, 1TB m.2 SSD, 80+ Gold PSU, WiFi, Keyboard & Mouse, DIY Friendly, Windows 11 Home: C7NUC-817US

Why we like the MSI Aegis Z2 Gaming Desktop

The key thing here is the potential. The system specifications are enough for enjoying mid-resolution gaming, so there’s a lot to like – particularly the possibilities for future upgrades. AMD’s Socket AM5 isn’t going anywhere so (PSU allowing) you could tinker and add to this PC if you feel it starts to show its limitations a little.

  • Core specs – AMD Ryzen 7 7700 (8-core, 16-thread – max 5.3 GHz) and RTX 4060 with 16GB DDR5 RAM – good specs for fast 1080p gaming and 1440p in many games with medium settings.
  • Storage – 1TB M2 SSD drive, which is plenty for storing Windows 11, files, media, and games.
  • PSU – 80 Plus Gold Rated PSU, providing premium-level power efficiency and stability.
  • Peripherals – Mouse and keyboard included, although models are unspecified
  • Cooling – RGB CPU air cooler, plus 3x front-panel system fans and 1x rear exhaust fan.
  • Upgrades – We see potential possible DIY upgrade options for RAM, CPU, GPU, and storage.

Who is this MSI Aegis Z2 gaming PC deal for?

This deal is likely for you if you’re looking to move to PC gaming from a console or get a new system to replace an older one without putting it together yourself. This MSI system is well-liked by users, features a good set of specs, and comes with everything you need to get started, apart from a monitor. The fact it’s built on the AM5 platform means you can upgrade your CPU later if you feel you need to, and there’s the potential to build on this PC as you go as long as the power supply is enough for future needs.

That you can buy a full system with peripherals at a time where $1,000+ graphics cards aren’t uncommon, shows that cost-effective options are out there if you don’t need high-powered parts right now. The gaming power of this system really comes down to the RTX 4060, and you can read our RTX 4060 review to find out a bit more.
