What we like about this monitor
- QD-OLED: The very top-level of panel technology that combines the best of both QLED and OLED to produce stunning picture quality, brightness, and vivid color. For gaming or watching content, this is a complete game-changer.
- Super responsive: This monitor boasts a 0.03ms respone time and 175Hz refresh rate, making it ideal for fast-paced gaming at higher frames per second.
- Glare free display: A must have if you’re playing in well-lit rooms, this anti glare coating will ensure you’re not distracted by unwanted reflections.
- 21:9 aspect ratio: This is great for a number of reasons. One, it give you a wider field of view when gaming, which can give you a competitive edge but also amp up the immersion. And two, since much of the content we watch is widescreen, this aspect ratio can reduce the size of the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, allowing for a more cinematic experience.
- Advanced cooling solutions: Samsung has gone all in to ensuring this monitor performs optimally and doesn’t land itself in a position where it could suffer from burn in. There’s a thermal modulation system that will predict surface temperature and adjust brightness to reduce heat. There’s a logo and task bar detector which reduces the brightness on static images, such as menus for instance. And there’s a screen saver which will come on after 10 minutes – which can help prevent burn in too.
- Wide…but not too wide: Coming in at 34-inches, this isn’t so big that it will dominate your desk-space, but it will still give you that immersive feel.
Who’s this deal for?
This is a monitor aimed more towards gamers, unlike some of Samsung’s other offerings that have various Smart TV features bundled in. It’s a monitor that is great for those who want something to increase immersion, but don’t fancy going for a more aggressive curved option, or something much wider, which can be very expensive and require a tonne of space too. It’s also very much for those who value the highest image quality you can get, so those who enjoy playing graphically impressive games with ray-tracing on would really get a lot of out of this display. Since it’s not 4K, it also doesn’t need to be paired with a super high-end gaming PC either, as you’ll be gaming in QHD when using this.
As for the pricing history, and whether it’s a good time to buy right now, according to camelcamelcamel, it’s not the lowest it’s ever been, but it’s not too far off. It does seem to be spending a fair bit of time reduced since the start of the year, but does also appear to snap back up to full price also. The question is whether it will drop lower soon, or snap back up to full price and stay there for an extended period of time. In our opinion, now seems like as good a time as any to grab it, but you could hold fire until the next major deals event to see if it hits its all time low again.
