Ultra-wide 34-inch Odyssey G5 gets a $130 discount in this Amazon deal

There are ‘okay’ times to buy monitors, and there are ‘good’ times to buy them. Right now is the latter for Samsung’s 34-inch Ultra-wide Odyssey G5. The eye-catching curved monitor has a fluctuating price history and has just dropped to $280 on Amazon, a saving of $120, or 30%. That’s a chunk off the list price for a model that can double up as a gaming and productivity screen, and which has generated plenty of positive sentiment, with good reason, from its owners.
SAMSUNG 34″ Odyssey G5 Ultra-Wide Gaming Monitor
Why we like Samsung’s 34-inch Odyssey G5 Ultra-Wide
Large, immersive curved 34-inch monitor
A WQHD curved monitor is an immersive experience and is especially perspective-shifting if you’re graduating from a standard 27-inch flat screen. The Odyssey G5 has a 1000R curvature, using its extra real estate to occupy your peripheral vision and enhancing gaming. This is ideal if you’re looking for cinematic experiences that can pull you into a story.
Solid speed with high responsiveness
Supporting the ‘cinematic’ profile of the Odyssey 5 is its 165Hz refresh rate, which will ensure enjoyably quick and smooth 1440p gameplay, up to 165 frames per second. As an ultra-wide monitor focused on added immersion, 165Hz is enough for lower-end to midrange systems targeting triple-A story-driven titles. And the 1ms response time means enough responsiveness for more competitive games, too.

VA panel and HDR10-rated
The Odyssey G5 has a VA panel, which makes it a natural fit for more immersive contrast. Plus, as the monitor is HDR10-rated, that marks it out as supporting rich, vivid colors. So whether you’re using the G5 to game or enjoy streamed content, the visual quality should be excellent for the price.
What to consider before you buy
The Odyssey G5 is an ultra-wide curved monitor that is great for immersive gaming and could (in theory) replace a dual-monitor setup. While there’s no reason you couldn’t use this monitor for productivity and daily use, if you depend on two separate monitors, you may have one central ‘main’ screen and one ‘flanking’ screen to the left or right. In that case, swapping this one monitor for two existing monitors may warrant some extra thought about your setup. However, at the deal price, it’s a capable and quality gaming and non-gaming screen, and Samsung is known for producing some of the best curved monitors available.
