Value reigns as Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet drops back to its best price of this year
Table of Contents
There is no beating Amazon’s Fire HD tablets for pure value. And the Fire HD 8 is the most affordable. For basic and casual daily use, the Fire HD 8 checks the key boxes, and its latest Amazon deal drops it below $100. Down to $90, with a $40 (31%) saving, this is extremely good value for a lightweight tablet with a solid battery life. If you want a tablet to take with you, or for around the house, this deal may suit your needs – as long as you accept this is far from a premium choice.

Why we’d pick the Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet
Extreme value
Price has to be the main consideration here. The Fire HD 8 is so much cheaper than other tablets, and if $100 is your whole budget, then it’s remarkable that a viable option exists. This device is basic, but it features an 8-inch screen, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage.
Good battery life
Amazon rates the Fire HD 8 battery as up to 13 hours of mixed use, including reading, web browsing, videos, gaming, and listening to music. That’s a good level of performance, and means you can take it with you without the urgent need for a power outlet.

Supports key apps
Fire tablets are tied to Amazon’s own Appstore, and not Google Play. However, key social media apps (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) and content streaming services are available, as is access to games like Minecraft and Roblox. So for basic use and content needs, it should deliver.
What to consider before you buy
There are two key things to consider (beyond the price being a reflection of the basic nature of this tablet). Firstly, expect lock-screen ads as a trade-off for the low cost. However, can opt for the ‘Without Lockscreen Ads’ option, which at its deal price is currently $105. Second, the Fire HD 8 tablet has limited camera quality and lacks compatibility with some apps you would expect of a standard Android device. Again, though, this is a basic, value-focused device, where key functionality is the priority.
