First available in 2024, Kingston’s NV3 NVMe SSD model entered the market at $79.99, costing approximately 8 cents per gigabyte. Features of the Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe SSD
- Performance: The NV3 offers speeds up to 6000MB/s, a step-change versus the older NV2 model drives, which offer read and write speeds of up to 3,500 and 2,800MB/s respectively. More importantly, the extra speed will be clear if you’re upgrading from a SATA SSD. SATA III SSD drives may offer a throughput high of around 600MB/s – ten times slower.
- Capacity: Many desktop PCs offer 1TB drives as a minimum standard now, and it’s a good upgrade from older 256GB or 500GB parts if your system feels cramped. A drive this size is best suited as a boot drive, and storage of smaller files, or games. Media files will fill it far more quickly.
- Power-efficiency: The Kingston NV3 1TB is designed as a low-power solution, drawing a reported max of 5W; a very similar amount of power to many SATA SSD drives.
- Reliability: Endurance rated for 320 TBW, meaning that if you continuously filled the 1TB capacity daily, you’d have 320 days before meeting the requirement. As such this drive isn’t best suited for regular, large, writes and re-writes.
- Warranty: Kingston provides a limited 3-year warranty for this drive.
Why consider this Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe SSD
Older computers, particularly desktop computers, regularly use SATA SSD drives. While power-efficient, SATA drives have now been surpassed in pure performance. NVMe drives offer superior speed and can be used on motherboards featuring M.2 connectors, which sit in systems form even a decade ago.
The Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe SSD uses the M.2 2280 specification found in desktop and laptop systems. So, if you want to upgrade or overhaul storage on an older system at a fairly low cost, this is a very cost-effective option. Even more so now the drive has dropped $20 from its original price in the current deal.
