best mouse for fortnite

They say that a bad workman blames their tools, but that old adage doesn’t really apply to computer gaming. Sure, you can get by on raw talent alone for a certain amount of time, but you will hit a barrier, and those with performance-enhancing gear are going to lay you to waste in Fortnite, ten times out of ten.

As Fortnite has become the huge cultural phenomenon that it has, we’re often not just playing for glory alone, but inordinate amounts of money. Missing out on a big cash win because of something as trivial as the type of mouse you use is utterly devastating, and then of course you’re forced to watch the player that knocked you out go for gold and steal your loot.

But don’t worry, friends. We’re not about to let that happen to you! After days of research and tons of Fortnite, we’ve answered the question, what are the best mice for Fortnite? Pick whichever of these five awesome mice suits your playing style, and you’ll never be an impassive observer again. You’ll be in the game to the bitter end.

There’s no time to waste, comrades. Let’s get you the mouse that’s going to revolutionize your game.

PROS
  • Light-Speed Technology - Wireless level report speeds.
  • 25K Hero Sensor - Highly responsive and accurate motion.
  • 80 Grams - Play longer and harder with no fatigue.
  • Customizable - Switch up the buttons to suit you.
  • Price - It’s not even that expensive, folks.
CONS
  • Double Click - On rare occasions, customers found it developed a double click.

Wireless mice still get a lot of flack, and rightly so. Historically, they just haven’t been able to match the extra-low latency of their wired counterparts…enter the Logitech G Pro.

Having worked tirelessly for two years in conjunction with pro esports gamers, Logitech finally cracked their proprietary Lightspeed technology, a wireless innovation that brings report speeds down to a single millisecond. That means no wire or latency to slow you down; the G Pro runs at synapse speed!

The 25K Hero sensor (a Logitech rendition of the 3366) is also a work of art. With a performance level beyond the realms of the physiology of a human arm, malfunction is impossible. It’s always as focused as you are.

Seeing you through 40 hours of straight Fortnite brutality, you can’t fault the G Pro battery either. What’s more, pair it with a Powerplay pad, and it charges while you play!

It’s an ergonomic, ambidextrous design with four customizable lateral buttons, and it only weighs 80 grams, improving reaction time, and inevitably tipping the balance on that W:L ratio.

PROS
  • 20K Sensor - Glides across the pad with grace and precision.
  • Optical Switches - Clicks register at the speed of light.
  • Hyperspeed Technology - Practically non-existent latency.
CONS
  • Weight - 74 grams is a little on the heavy side for FPS gaming.

C’mon…you knew there was no chance we were going to snub Razer in this list. They make so many great mice that it was honestly difficult to decide which ones to go for, but for fast-paced FPS gaming, you can’t beat the Viper Ultimate.

Using Hyperspeed technology, Razer’s version of Logitechs’s Light-speed hardware, the Viper is just as fast as top-tier cable mice. It runs with a 20K optical sensor with an adjustable lift-off and landing setting, so you can re-center mid-game without your crosshair going AWOL.

Moreover, using optically actuated switches, your commands register at the speed of light, ensuring a highly responsive gaming experience. As soon as you think about it, it happens on screen.

It’s a little shorter in the back end than the Logitech G Pro, which we feel detracted from what could be a super comfortable design, but of course, you may prefer this sort of shaping. It all comes down to personal preference.

PROS
  • Lightweight
  • Exceptional gaming performance
CONS
  • Hard to buy
  • Not for everyone

If you’re looking for a gaming mouse that is light, stunning, and precise, why not check out the Finalmouse x Ninja Air58? This mouse was made in collaboration with Finalmouse and the popular gamer Ninja.

It features a frankly beautiful cherry blossom design and honeycomb shell – weighing in at only 58 grams. The Finalmouse x Ninja Air58 is designed to give you an edge in competitive games. The infrastructure means it feels like air in your hand and allows you to move faster and more accurately. The mouse has two side buttons, a braided cable, and a Pixart 3360 sensor for flawless tracking

When this mouse was first released it was a pretty major deal! Unfortunately, it is not the easiest thing to acquire nowadays. Although there are a few sellers on Amazon stocking it, as well as other sellers on StockXX.

PROS
  • Dual Sensors - Unparalleled traction means greater accuracy shooting.
  • Side Grips - Keep you in control no matter how tense the game gets.
  • Modular Weight - Tweak the weight to suit your preferences.
CONS
  • Glue - Side grips sometimes come loose.

The Rival 600 was crafted with innovation at its core, evidenced by the fact it has not one, but two sensors! It’s such a simple yet powerful upgrade that boosts precision exponentially, allowing you to take down your opponents with increasing ease.

Ultra-low lift-off distance is another benefit of the dual-sensor system. As soon as you lift the Rival 600, your crosshair stays firmly planted where you left it, allowing you to make a quick and controlled adjustment.

Much like the Logitech G502, it’s filled with removable weights, so you can adjust it to suit the game you’re playing. What’s more, the side grips are made from a durable silicone compound that maintains traction when moist, making it the perfect tool in tense situations when the sweat is a-flowin’.

Our only major gripe is that these rubber grips aren’t as securely glued in place as we’d hoped, and in certain circumstances, can come loose. Besides that, it’s a beast of a budget gaming mouse.

5
PROS
  • 20K Self Adjusting Sensor - This thing will boost your accuracy straight out of the box.
  • Speedflex Cable - Doesn’t hinder movement in any way.
  • Price - You won’t believe how affordable this monster of a mouse is.
CONS
  • Click - The switches feel a little underwhelming.
  • Weight - It’s a little heavy.

The DeathAdder V2 doesn’t just look sleek, it feels sleek. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more ergonomic design out there. The comfort it offers allows you to relax and keep your head in the game, even if you’ve got extra large hands.

Featuring a 20K sensor that automatically adjusts to the topography of your mouse pad, your crosshairs are swift and accurate, ensuring you can strike with the speed of a viper. It does have a wire, but Razer’s proprietary Speedflex cable design ensures that no matter how fast you need to whip that mouse across the pad, the cable doesn’t get in your way.

Weighing in at 82 grams, it’s a mid to heavy mouse for FPS, but the PTFE feet are well-shaped and positively glide across the pad, reducing fatigue, and allowing you to game harder for longer.

The click of the switches lacks a bit of tactility, feeling slightly more hollow than previous DeathAdder iterations, but all things considered, you won’t find a better mouse for Fortnite or even gaming in general at this price point.

Things To Consider

Size

Before we can even think about the technical stuff, we need to find you a mouse that fits perfectly under your hand. Awkward stretching to reach controls is unacceptable. You also want your fingers to come to rest in the proper place for fast actuation, which is between the center and the end of the switches.

A rough rule of thumb is that your mouse should measure about 66% the length of your hand. You can do some preliminary measuring before purchase, but it’s always best to buy a returnable product just in case it’s not such a good fit.

Shape and Grip Styles

Next on the agenda is finding one with a shape that’s both comfortable underhand and suits your grip style. Grip style often falls into three categories…

Palm Grip

Considered the best style for FPS gaming, palm grip is the standard way of holding a computer mouse. It’s relaxed and firm, your whole palm resting on the shell of the mouse, with your fingers running along over the switches.

Claw Grip

If you rest the heel of your hand on the back of the mouse and arch your fingers towards the switches, you have a claw-style mouse grip. This grip allows a cocked thumb on the side buttons, but a heavier mouse can cause fatigue.

Fingertip Grip

This is similar to palm grip, but your whole hand is shifted back slightly, so most mouse articulation comes from the fingers rather than the palm. In this case, you’ll need lateral controls to be slightly further back.

Weight

Generally speaking, Fortnite requires a lighter mouse somewhere in the region of 47-75 grams. This is because you can move it faster with less effort, something that’s not only going to help you beat your opponent to the trigger, but help reduce fatigue during those monster gaming sessions.

Having said that, it mostly comes down to personal preference. Heavier mice tend to offer greater stability, which can be handy in a long-range scenario where measured shooting is required.

Wireless vs Wired

It used to be that nothing without a wire could compete with a wired device in terms of latency, but that’s no longer the case, so we highly recommend going wireless. Failing that, your Fortnite mouse needs to have a lightweight, thin, flexible cable.

Sensor and DPI

Situated in the base of your mouse, the sensor is responsible for tracking movement. There are two types, optical and laser. Laser sensors work well on a larger variety of surfaces, but nothing beats optical for FPS gaming. Just make sure you’re not using them on a reflective surface.

DPI (dots per minute) is a measure of mouse sensitivity. The higher it is, the smaller the amount of motion it will detect. More isn’t always best. Too high and you’ll have a jittery crosshair, but too low, and you won’t be able to compete with faster players.

Polling Rate

This is the rate at which your mouse informs your computer of movement. Measured in hertz (high is best) and milliseconds (low is best), it controls how accurately crosshair movement on screen mirrors mouse movement.

Controls and Switches

Fortnite doesn’t require a battle station of a mouse, but there is a lot of switching items and weapons involved, so a mouse with at least a couple of side controls will speed up your performance exponentially.

The switches on your mouse dictate how fast your commands register on screen, so obviously, it’s a big deal. Optical switches are best because they use light rather than a mechanism to trigger commands.

Lift Off

You’ll have noticed that when you lift your mouse and replace it, the cursor doesn’t really know what to do. It jitters and skips all over the place, which can be a nightmare in the fast-paced world of Fortnite. That’s why we recommend a low LOD (lift-off distance) of 3mm or less. This means that as soon as you lift your mouse, the sensor stops tracking, keeping your crosshair where you left it.

Are Lighter Mice Better for Gaming?

The ideal weight of the mouse depends on the type of game you’re playing and what feels right for you.

Generally speaking, for FPS titles such as Fortnite, a lighter mouse is better, as it can be moved faster and reduces fatigue.

Can a Gaming Mouse Be Used as a Normal Mouse?

Yes, you can absolutely use your gaming mouse for standard computing, but if you want to prolong your super-mouse’s life, you should consider a separate device for leisure use.

What Mouse Does Tfue Use?

Tfue currently uses the mouse in our fifth position, the Razer Viper Ultimate.

What Mouse Do Pro FPS Gamers Use?

All the mice on our list are known to be used by professional FPS gamers, but other notable models include the Finalmouse Air58, the SteelSeries Sensei, and the Zowie FK Series.

Will a Gaming Mouse Make Difference?

A gaming mouse will definitely give you an edge when it comes to gaming. As Fortnite uses a skill-based matchmaking system, your opponents will be at a similar level to you. A mouse that allows you to move faster or shoot more accurately will tip the balance in your favor.

Which Mouse is Best for Fortnite?

The Logitech G Pro Light-Speed is widely considered the best mouse, not just for Fortnite, but any FPS game.

Do You Need a Gaming Mouse for Fortnite?

No, you don’t need a gaming mouse for Fortnite, especially when you’re starting out, but once you get some XP under your belt, and you’re taking on skilled opponents, a gaming mouse is a must.

Can You Clean a Gaming Mouse?

Yes, you can clean a gaming mouse. In fact, that should be part of your routine maintenance; however, how you should go about it differs from mouse to mouse. Be sure to check your user manual and only attempt cleaning methods recommended by the manufacturer.

Our Verdict

There you have, Fortnite warriors. These are the five best mice you can use to obliterate your opponents, claim glorious, glorious victory, and possibly even some cash too. As long as you find a mouse that’s geared specifically towards FPS gaming and feels swift and comfortable underhand, you’re on to a winner.
