PlayStation 3 emulation on PC has reached a huge milestone. The popular PS3 emulator RPCS3 has now reached a point where around 70% of the entire PlayStation 3 game library is officially rated as playable. This means thousands of PS3 games can now be played from start to finish with good performance and without any major, game-breaking issues.

Just a few years ago, PS3 emulation was far behind. Back then, less than half of the PS3 library could even run properly, and many games either crashed, failed to boot, or had serious performance problems. Since then, the RPCS3 development team has continued to improve the emulator step by step. Their long-term work on performance, stability, and compatibility has pushed RPCS3 into a much more reliable and usable state today.

RPCS3 compatibility ratings

According to RPCS3’s official compatibility list, more than 70% of PlayStation 3 games are now marked as “Playable.” These games can be completed with stable performance and no major bugs. Around 26% of games are listed as “Ingame,” meaning they run but may suffer from performance drops or issues that prevent full completion. Less than 3% of games only reach the intro, and fewer than 1% do not run at all.

This progress is especially important as the PlayStation 3 gets closer to its 20th anniversary. Original PS3 consoles are becoming harder to find, and working hardware is slowly wearing out. Emulation has become one of the best ways to preserve the PS3’s massive game library. On top of preservation, RPCS3 also allows players to improve games beyond their original limits, such as higher resolutions, smoother frame rates, and faster load times on modern PCs.

It’s also worth noting that the “Playable” label is very strict. Many games marked as “Ingame” already run well on powerful PCs and are only held back by performance limits on weaker systems.  RPCS3 has also expanded its platform support, as the emulator now works on Windows, Linux, and macOS, across both x64 and ARM64 systems.
