Nvidia’s RTX 5090 will be the fastest card based on the Blackwell architecture in the 50-series lineup and is said to be approximately 36% faster than the previous flagship, the RTX 4090, according to recently leaked Blender benchmarks. In gaming, Nvidia has demonstrated over 2x the performance – but that’s with a helping hand from DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation.

However, you might be surprised to hear that Nvidia may have held back a bit. This information comes from a Chiphell forum, where an unnamed Nvidia prototype was shared alongside a board picture and specifications that, when compared to the official RTX 5090, are significantly more powerful, especially in a few key areas.

RTX 5090 prototype reportedly features faster memory, more CUDA cores, and increased TDP

According to the individual who shared this information, the prototype card features dual 12V-2×6 power connectors and reportedly boasts 24,576 CUDA cores. Its core configuration of 96x16x16 gives it almost 13% more cores than the official RTX 5090, which has 21,760 CUDA cores. Additionally, the prototype 5090 comes with 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM, the same amount as the official RTX 5090. However, the prototype operates at 32 Gbps, while the official model’s memory is downclocked to 30 Gbps.

It's possible that the prototype has the same physical memory specifications but does not fully utilize its maximum speed. If accurate, the card would offer a bandwidth exceeding 2 TB/s. Interestingly, the prototype also has an increased TDP of 800W, an additional 225W compared to the RTX 5090, which is why it comes with dual power connectors. Here is a complete breakdown of the specifications between the two versions:

Future GeForce RTX 5090 Ti?

While the leaker has provided specifications for the GPU, they claim it currently lacks working drivers, meaning it's not ready for testing just yet. The leaker has requested that those reviewing the RTX 5090 with press drivers share them, which would allow testing of this prototype GPU.

That said, the leaker also claims that the prototype was made in July 2024, and there is no information on whether Nvidia plans to release it to the market in this or another form. Perhaps we might see this prototype used in a future RTX 5090 Ti GPU, but for now, we can only keep our fingers crossed. While it is true that Nvidia has secured trademarks for future GPUs – including the 5090 Ti – this isn’t a guarantee we’ll ever see one released.
