AMD’s new RX 9070 GPUs could be revealed as soon as this week, a new rumor suggests

AMD is slated to release two new GPUs this quarter: the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. These graphics cards were not mentioned during their keynote at CES 2025. Instead, AMD confirmed them in a pre-briefing shared ahead of the event – along with several AIB models being shown off at the event.
However, the company only revealed the names of the cards without providing details about the specifications or release date(s). So, we can instead turn to rumors and leaks, and a recent rumor suggests that AMD is planning to host an event soon, where they might officially announce and reveal details about these upcoming cards.
RDNA 4 event rumored to be hosted on January 15th
According to Momori on X (via All The Watts), AMD's RDNA 4 event is set for Wednesday, January 15th. It is expected that AMD will showcase both the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT in its upcoming reveal. According to their speculation, the 9070 XT could perform somewhere between the RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4080, with the non-XT version between the 4070 Super and 4070 Ti Super.
A counter-rumor to the 15th
However, another source, HXL on X, mentioned that the RDNA 4 has been delayed by AMD as the company is waiting for Nvidia to make its move first. This information comes from nApoleon on Chiphell. nApoleon previously advised gamers not to preorder Nvidia's RTX 50-series cards after he leaked early tests showing the RX 9070 XT outperforming the RTX 4080 Super.
In any case, based on the leaks so far, both the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT are expected to come with 16 GB of VRAM. The RX 9070 XT might have a base clock speed of 2,520 MHz, a boost clock speed of 3,060 MHz, and 4,096 stream processors. It will be interesting to see how these mid-range cards from AMD will perform once they are officially revealed.
Many are currently happy with the fact that AMD is introducing this much VRAM in their mid-range options, as Nvidia is offering only 12 GB in their upcoming RTX 5070.
