The latest Steam top seller stats are in, and Dead by Daylight tops the list for paid games. It’s even ahead of Valve’s Steam Deck handheld, which has a history of sitting in the number one spot when there isn’t a blockbuster game release that week. As for DBD, it seems obvious that profits are driven by the recent 9.4.0 patch, otherwise known as Stranger Things Chapter 2.

The update includes Dead by Daylight’s 38th DLC chapter, coming nearly a decade after the game’s release. Stranger Things fans and Dead by Daylight players have long been able to enjoy several iconic characters from the franchise, including the likes of survivors Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington, and Chapter 13 killer The Demogorgon.

Dead by Daylight is in the top spot for paid games

According to SteamDB, Dead by Daylight jumped a massive nineteen positions for total sales in the period spanning January 27 to February 3. The Stranger Things Chapter 2 update was released on January 27, giving developers Behaviour Interactive a whole week of sales to jump into the top spot. It knocks ARC Raiders off the number one spot. Counter-Strike 2 remains the number one when you include F2P titles; other F2P games otherwise in the top 10 include PUBG and Marvel Rivals in 6th and 7th.

New content in the Stranger Things Chapter 2 update

Following the Stranger Things finale on December 31, 2025, renewed hype for the series made it a great time for new licensed content in DBD. Joining Demogorgon and the gang is a new killer, Vecna, and two more survivors. There are also Stranger Things-related legendary skins (outfits) in the game – Jonathan Byers, Robin Buckley, and Eddie Munson, though these are not their own unique characters, unlike the following:

• New Killer + 3 new perks
  • The First (Vecna/One)
    • Turn Back the Clock
    • Secret Project
    • Hex: Hive Mind
• New Survivors + 3 new perks each
  • Dustin Henderson
    • Bada Bada Boom
    • Change of Plan
    • Teamwork: Full Circuit
  • Eleven
    • Extrasensory Perception
    • We See You
    • Teamwork: Soft-Spoken
