DLSS 5 modding made easier by Nvidia in RTX Remix 1.6, alongside 6x Multi Frame Gen support and more
Table of Contents
Nvidia introduced DLSS 5 last month, bringing its new 3D-Guided Neural Rendering technology to supported games. However, getting the technology into titles that don’t receive official developer support has largely depended on unofficial mods. Nvidia is now making that process easier for the modding community with a major update to RTX Remix.
The company has released RTX Remix 1.6, which adds DLSS 5 integration directly to its modding platform. RTX Remix is designed to help modders give older PC games a visual overhaul by replacing textures and materials, improving lighting, and adding technologies such as path tracing. With the latest update, creators working on compatible games can now use Nvidia’s own tools to add DLSS 5 without waiting for the original developers to implement it.

DLSS 5’s 3D-Guided Neural Rendering uses information from the game, including its geometry, textures, and lighting, to improve how materials and lighting appear. Modders are also given controls to adjust the effect, with three different model options as well as settings for highlights and volumetric effects. Individual materials can also be controlled separately.

Nvidia has already demonstrated the new integration through community projects for Fallout 4 and Mirror’s Edge. The examples show improvements to areas such as reflections, shadows, material appearance, and lighting. However, DLSS 5 cannot simply be added to every old PC game, as the title first needs to work with RTX Remix or have a suitable integration.
Aside from that, RTX Remix 1.6 brings several other major upgrades. Supported RTX 50-series GPUs can now use 5X and 6X Multi Frame Generation, while a new Frame Generation Performance Mode is designed to reduce the performance cost of generating additional frames. Nvidia has also expanded its AI-assisted modding tools through ComfyUI 2.0.
Another notable addition is experimental RTX Remix support for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1. The Fabric-based mod brings path-traced lighting, reflections, shadows, and global illumination to the game through a new rendering pipeline. Native Windows on ARM support has also been added.
