DOOM: The Dark Ages is officially out today, but those who bought the premium edition have already been testing the first-person shooter title for the past couple of days. For the most part, high-end PC users don’t need to worry about performance issues, but those with 8GB GPUs may need to dial down the visuals quite a bit, while handhelds like the Steam Deck are struggling to keep the game running at a playable framerate.

Fortunately, not all handheld users are left in the dark. ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go users experiencing performance and stability problems have been acknowledged in a recent Steam post titled “DOOM: The Dark Ages FAQ and Known Issues.” According to the devs, these performance issues are due to “known driver issues” on both devices, and a fix is currently in the works. Here’s what the official post said:

ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go

  • Issue: Users attempting to run the game on the ASUS ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion GO will experience poor performance and stability issues.
    • Resolution: There are known driver issues on both devices which we are working with manufacturers to resolve.

We still don’t know how much of a performance boost users on these devices can expect once the devs fix the driver issues, but we’re not expecting anything drastic. DOOM: The Dark Ages, as we already know, requires Ray Tracing, something that’s becoming more common lately, which means if your GPU doesn’t support it, you’re pretty much DOOMED. That said, we’re also hoping to see the Steam Deck’s frame generation issue get a fix soon, as enabling it is currently cutting FPS in half.

Fortunately, the game also launches on the popular cloud gaming platform GeForce Now today, which is a saving grace for handheld users.
