EmuDeck has received another major update, with version 2.7 now available across SteamOS, Linux, and Windows. The popular emulation tool already makes setting up and managing emulators much easier on the Steam Deck, but the latest release expands its focus to other devices, including Valve’s Steam Machine.

One of the biggest changes is improved Steam Machine support. EmuDeck can now automatically use higher-resolution configurations for selected emulators, including default 1080p and 4K setups. This should make the software better suited to Valve’s more powerful living-room PC.

What does the update offer?

EmuDeck’s patch notes are split into Windows, SteamOS, and Linux, which are summarized before (thanks to this Reddit post).

SteamOS / Linux / Windows

  • RetroAchievements
    • EmuDeck now uses the new RetroAchievements API, and we’ve added support for Dolphin RetroAchievements setup
  • Resolution selector
    • Change the resolution of more emulators from within EmuDeck; added PPSSPP, Xemu, Vita3K, Azahar, and PrimeHack.
    • Fixed a bug where resolutions weren’t being applied on installation
  • Embedded videos
    • Fixed the YouTube video error on embedded videos in the app
  • Import / Export
    • Export your EmuDeck installation to another device. Steam Deck to Steam Machine, Linux <-> Windows, etc.

SteamOS / Linux

  • AutoMap Controllers
    • Enable AutoMap to allow EmuDeck to set up your controls in emulators that don’t detect controllers automatically. This will also enable auto setup of controllers for up to 4 players and support for other Linux distros and external controllers like the Steam Controller, 8BitDo, Xbox, DualSense, non-Steam Deck handhelds, etc
  • Steam Machine improvements
    • Improvements to Steam Machine support: added default 1080P / 4K setup in selected emulators.
  • Ryujinx Gyro
    • SteamDeckGyroDSU installed automatically when setting up Ryujinx. Steam Deck only, we are investigating in how to add support for the Steam Controller

Windows

  • EmuDeck Compressor
    • Fixed an issue where EmuDeck Compressor couldn’t be launched from the EmuDeck app
  • EmuDeck Start Menu links
    • The EmuDeck app will restart explorer.exe to reset the Start Menu cache that prevented the EmuDeck icons from being shown

Along with improved Steam Machine support, the update also introduces AutoMap, which addresses emulators that don’t automatically recognize the user’s controller. EmuDeck can configure controllers for up to four players, while support isn’t limited to the Steam Deck’s built-in controls. External controllers and other Linux distributions are supported as well, which should make multiplayer emulation easier to set up.

EmuDeck 2.7 also brings a number of useful changes to individual emulators. PPSSPP, Xemu, Vita3K, Azahar, and PrimeHack now have resolution selectors directly within EmuDeck, giving users a simpler way to adjust rendering resolution without digging through each emulator’s settings.

RetroAchievements has been updated to use its latest API, with Dolphin support now included. SteamDeckGyroDSU will also be automatically installed when setting up Ryujinx. Moving an EmuDeck installation to another device should be easier as well, thanks to improvements to the export system. This could be particularly useful for someone moving their emulation setup from a Steam Deck to a Steam Machine rather than starting again from scratch.

There are plenty of smaller fixes included in version 2.7. Steam ROM Manager gets a new RPCS3 ISO parser, while RPCS3 itself has had obsolete configuration entries cleaned up. Xemu saves are now configured during initialization, Supermodel should launch correctly from Desktop Mode, and RMG has received an updated configuration with a Steam Deck controller profile. Old launchers for Citra, Lime3DS, and Suyu have also been removed.

Windows users haven’t been left out either. EmuDeck fixed an issue that prevented its Compressor tool from launching through the app, while Dolphin and PrimeHack will now download their latest releases instead of older fixed versions. Several other emulators, including PCSX2, Ryujinx, RPCS3, and ShadPS4, have received fixes or configuration changes.
