Fans call out for a “Reviewed on Steam Deck” tag for game reviews on Steam

The Steam Deck is possibly the most successful PC handheld, and we know for sure that the platform that owns it dominates the PC market. The switch has been around since 2022, I know, time flies. Throughout 2022 and 2023, 3 million units were sold and we’re still waiting on the numbers to come in for 2024. But players are calling out for one specific thing.
Deck users on Reddit are calling out for a “reviewed on Steam Deck” tag for Steam game reviews. A post was made in r/SteamDeck by a user named macklin67, and judging by the over 4k upvotes, the community agrees.
The post is a simple meme stating there should be a separate tag for users who reviewed a specific game using the Steam Deck. This is different from the already-in-place “Steam Deck Verified” tab on the Game’s store page. This would give Deck users the power to express their specific feelings on running a certain game on the deck and have other interested deck users quickly find that comment.
But we have “Steam Deck Verified” already
As we all know, just because a store page says it will work, doesn’t mean it will 100% of the time. Although, the Deck Verified statements usually hold up pretty well. This will indeed make it easier for would-be Deck players to quickly find out other users’ experience with the game on the handheld console. And you have to bear in mind, that the verified statements are only a performance and compatibility measurement, not a user experience one.
At the end of the day, I’m not a developer, but it seems like adding a tag to facilitate this should be fairly simple. It’s not like Valve needs the money, but it seems like it would help facilitate a lot more purchases, and keep its users engaged in the platform that it hosts, rather than heading to YouTube for reviews, for example. With that in mind, it’s impossible to say whether or not Steam will implement this feature, but if it’s brought to their attention and it’s easy enough to do, I don’t see why they wouldn’t.
The Steam Deck is constantly top of the Steam sellers list, and it’s true that it might be put there by Valve as free advertising, but I literally think it does sell that well. It’s an incredibly capable machine and users just want to know if their games will work on it, and how well.
Remember though, as per Steam’s return policy, if you are unhappy with a game, as long as you have owned it for less than 2 weeks, and played it for less than a cumulative 2 hours, you can refund it for any reason. 2 hours is more than long enough to figure out if a game is good on the Deck.
