Developers have just rolled out the latest No Man’s Sky 5.0 update, and while many players are enjoying the wide array of changes it brings, others are plagued with huge drops in framerates and poor performance issues.
Popular open-world title, No Man’s Sky, has received a massive – arguably the biggest to date – update that brings several exciting changes to the game. The update will involve a complete overhaul of planetary weather, alongside a major balancing patch that results in players joining forces to collectively fight the threat of invading alien bugs. The devs, Hello Games, did mention performance improvements a few times in their ‘Worlds Part I’ update, but perhaps not enough has been done.

Despite huge excitement around the update, many individuals have sadly been hit with massive performance issues. One Redditor expressed their displeasure by writing; “The new update has sent my framerate to toilet levels of bad, especially once I went to my Settlement and was attacked by sentinels there”.
This isn’t the first time performance issues have hit the game after a major update either, with another Redditor replying “Welcome to an NMS update, just like every other update,”. Despite the annoying nature of the performance issues, most players feel pretty confident that Hello Games will act quickly on the matter. And if history is to repeat itself, a relevant performance-based patch should arrive in a week or two.

What does the latest No Man’s Sky update offer?
The massive update is being classed by Hello Games as a “universal refresh” and will see a ton of changes. Below, we’ve summarized some of the major changes that will impact players:
- Player4s will get to enjoy a galactic bug hunt in the form of a community expedition. Join the Liquidator Vanguard to purge it.
- New walker battles have detailed combat UI, giving them the ability to target vulnerabilities.
- New water technology that will add realism to waves and reflections
- Waves are dynamic and will react to planetary wind
- Ships can now land directly on water
- New cloud tech adds detailed skies with realistic changes in weather conditions
- Volumetrics and atmospherics on planet surfaces for rolling fog, rain, blizzards, lava sparks, and other phenomenon
- Weather systems that interact and develop in real time as players explore
- New biomes and more creatures to discover with more variety, all of which can become pets and mounts
On top of all that, the game is also currently on sale on Steam – its lowest-ever price in fact, so it’s a good time to get into the game, granted you don’t run into any performance issues yourself. Strangely enough, NMS doesn’t list any official recommended system requirements (at the time of writing), so we recently went ahead and made our own to help you out.
