GTA V Enhanced adds more ray tracing options, even with GTA 6 on the horizon
Table of Contents
Could new Ray-Tracing improvements to GTA V Enhanced increase it’s popularity? GTA V Enhanced has so far proven to be the ‘worst user reviewed GTA game on Steam’, with a ‘Mixed’ rating. This has been because of various technical issues users have found with the game, not just poor optimization but also audio issues, finnicky HDR, and problems with DualSense for console users. Many users have apparently gone back to the original ‘Legacy’ variant of the game, which of course has a whole host of graphical mods that people have developed over time for the still hugely popular game.
So what are these latest RTX changes? Well, as it says in the patch notes for Update 1.71:
- An option to enable high resolution ray traced reflections has been added to GTAV Enhanced
- An option to have a second ray bounce for RTGI has been added to GTAV Enhanced
Both ‘high resolution ray traced reflections’ and ‘second ray bounce for RTGI’ aim to improve the fidelity of the Ray-Tracing experience.
What in-game changes do these new Ray Tracing options bring?
Neither of these settings will increase the FPS you get with RTX enabled, however they do improve its execution. Previously blurry reflections and the odd bit of fuzziness could affect users, however with both these settings enabled any artifacting seems to be reduced.
In the video below from YouTube channel GTA Network, you can see the performance of the game with these new settings enabled on an RTX 4090 rig, with the game running at 4K resolution. Obviously playing at lower resolutions should get you better FPS / the same FPS on less powerful setups.
