Sony has quietly made a big change that many PC players will be happy about. The company has removed regional restrictions on some of its biggest games on Steam. These include God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Helldivers 2. Until now, these games were not available to buy in many countries because those regions didn’t support PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts. But that has now changed.

A big change without any announcement

These changes were first noticed on SteamDB, a site that tracks updates made to games on Steam. According to the latest update logs, Sony has lifted the sales restrictions on these four games in many parts of the world. The only new country added to the restricted list is Russia.

This move is likely linked to the backlash Sony faced a while ago. Earlier this year, Helldivers 2 faced massive review bombing after Sony required a connected PSN account to play it, even though many countries didn’t support PSN. The company was forced to reverse the decision and make PSN optional, but they also ended up pulling the game from sale in 177 countries.

But now, it looks like Sony is finally making things right. While the company has not made an official statement, the changes can be seen directly on SteamDB. On top of that, we can see that the ‘PlayStation Network Account required’ tag has been removed from the aforementioned games. This notice is still visible on games such as Ghost of Tsushima and Until Dawn.

Good news for Steam Deck users

For Steam Deck users, this is even better news, as all four games are compatible with the handheld. Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and God of War Ragnarok are all Verified, which means they run great on the Steam Deck right out of the box. Helldivers 2, on the other hand, is listed as Playable, so it works fine after some tweaks and adjustments.

In any case, it’s great to see that Sony has finally lifted the restrictions on these four games. This will also reassure players who were worried that future releases might come with similar limitations.
