ASUS’s ROG Ally is one of the most popular handhelds in the market and a strong contender to the likes of the Steam Deck. Fitted with the popular AMD Ryzen Z1 / Z1 Extreme processor, it provides a great gaming experience on the go. However, even though it is a premium device, users still face different issues from time to time – with games such as Diablo 4 and Fortnite seemingly affected.

The latest problem involves performance issues, which appear to be linked to a recent GPU driver update; version number ending in 3002. One user online went as far as to warn everyone: “don’t update to the latest GPU driver”, but it seems like negative effects aren’t being felt by every user.

Current known issues with the latest ROG Ally GPU driver

The latest GPU driver has been causing performance and stability problems for a number of ASUS ROG Ally users. While some users have experienced no issues whatsoever, others have reported a range of problems, from performance issues in popular titles like Diablo 4 to complete crashes and the inability to access the AMD Software.

According to one user, they’ve been experiencing performance issues in Diablo 4 since the update was released, with the game constantly stuttering and crashing nearly every 30 seconds. The update has also caused the game to run slow for some users. Fortnite players are encountering similar problems, as they’ve been facing FPS drop issues since the update.

While some users are facing problems in games, others can’t even open the AMD Software anymore on their ASUS ROG Ally after downloading the latest GPU driver update. Even after reinstalling it through the Microsoft Store, the app isn’t opening on their handheld device.

Consider rolling back the update if you’re having problems

While the exact cause of these issues remains unclear, it’s possible that the new driver version contains bugs or incompatibilities with certain games or applications. If you’re experiencing issues after updating the GPU drivers, consider rolling back to a previous version. This can often resolve problems caused by incompatible or buggy drivers and can be done via the ASUS support site or the Windows device manager.
