When it comes to the best OLED TVs, LG is a name you can’t leave off your list. The company has made a big name for itself in the OLED space, not just with its TVs but also with its OLED gaming monitors, which offer some of the best specs currently available. And soon, a new 45-inch option is expected to join the lineup.

LG Display has announced the start of mass production for a new 45-inch OLED panel, claiming it delivers the “world’s best picture quality” for gaming monitors. This panel features a 5120×2160 resolution with a 21:9 aspect ratio, totaling approximately 11 million pixels, more than five times the resolution of Full HD. It’s also a significant upgrade from LG Display’s previous 45-inch panel, which had a 3440×1440 resolution.

World’s best picture quality

Apart from its impressive 5K2K resolution, this OLED panel is said to offer up to 1300 nits of peak brightness, true black levels, and a 165Hz refresh rate at full resolution or 330Hz at half resolution. It is also flicker-free and features an anti-glare coating. LG Display believes that these high-end specifications allow this OLED panel to deliver the “world’s best picture quality” in a monitor. The new 45-inch panel will debut first with the upcoming 45GX950A and 45GX990A bendable monitors from LG Electronics later in 2025.

No next-gen WOLED

Back at CES 2025, LG unveiled its 4th-generation WOLED, which is expected to debut first in OLED TVs before being integrated into more products and gaming monitors in the future. What makes this panel a game changer is LG’s next-gen 4-stack WOLED, which allegedly offers a 33% increase in brightness, 20% improved energy efficiency, and a peak white brightness of 4000 nits—a 40% improvement over last year’s MLA OLED panel.

“The Primary RGB Tandem structure applied to the fourth-generation OLED TV panel organizes the light source into four stacks by adding two layers of blue elements and independent layers of red and green elements. It improves maximum brightness by increasing the amount of light produced by each layer compared to the previous structure.”

However, as feature-packed as the upcoming 45-inch 5K2K OLED panel is, unfortunately, it won’t include this next-gen 4-stack WOLED technology. Instead, it will rely on microlenses similar to those used in other OLED monitor panels. That said, with mass production for the OLED panel now starting, it’s only a matter of time before we see whether it truly delivers the “world’s best picture quality” or not.
