LG unveils its own Micro RGB TV ahead of CES 2026 and promises “color perfection” with “OLED precision”

LG has officially revealed its new TV display technology ahead of CES 2026, and it sounds like a big step forward for large-screen TVs. LG says this technology is built to deliver what it calls “color perfection,” with better accuracy, stronger brightness, and more lifelike images than traditional LED TVs.
It isn’t the first company to do Micro RGB (Samsung released a massive 115″ TV back in August, currently retailing for $29,999.99), but it’s obvious that LG isn’t too far behind. Micro RGB is based on Mini-LED technology, but with a major change. Instead of using a white LED backlight that relies on filters to create color, this new approach uses individual red, green, and blue LEDs. Each color is produced directly, which allows for cleaner tones and much better color control.
LG follows in Samsung’s footsteps to produce Micro RGB TV

“The LG Micro RGB evo represents a significant evolution in Micro RGB technology: it uses OLED precision to control each of the RGB LED backlights, bringing 13 years of LG OLED’s technical excellence to the RGB category. The engine driving this performance is the newly upgraded Dual AI Engine-based α (Alpha) 11 AI Processor Gen 3, which features Dual Super Upscaling to simultaneously process two types of AI upscaling. This enhances sharpness while delivering natural and balanced images that offer the highest level of clarity and immersion.”

LG has made it clear that this new Micro RGB technology is not meant to replace OLED. OLED will continue to exist as LG’s premium option, especially for people who care about perfect blacks. Instead, Micro RGB sits alongside OLED as a high-end alternative, offering very bright screens and strong color performance without using self-lit pixels.
The Micro RGB Evo TVs will also use LG’s latest a11 AI Processor Gen 3 (the same chip used in the LG G5 OLED TV). This processor is designed to improve image quality using AI, especially when it comes to upscaling lower-resolution content. On top of that, LG is adding something called Micro Dimming Ultra, which tightly controls the LED zones to improve contrast. LG claims this allows the TV to reach a level of precision that comes very close to OLED.

Screen size is another big focus. LG plans to offer the Micro RGB Evo in 75-inch, 86-inch, and massive 100-inch models. These sizes clearly show that LG is targeting users who want a true home cinema experience, much like Samsung has already done with its massive 115-inch display. While LG has not shared pricing or a release date yet, the company has confirmed that the TV will be shown publicly at CES in early January.
