Rockstar Games has revealed a significant amount of new information via Game Informer about GTA 6, giving players a closer look at what they can expect from Leonida when the game arrives. The latest coverage includes 12 new screenshots alongside details about the map, wildlife, weather, activities, and some of the systems players will encounter while exploring the open world.

One of the biggest revelations is the sheer size of Leonida. Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut says the GTA 6 map is around twice the size of GTA 5’s, but the studio isn’t focusing on size alone. Buildings, alleys, rooftops, interiors, and other areas have received additional attention to make the world feel denser and more believable.

More details about GTA 6’s Leonida setting

Leonida itself is split across six major regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. Rockstar also plans to use the main story to naturally take Jason and Lucia through different parts of the map, giving players a reason to explore beyond Vice City.

GTA 6 will feature a much more advanced weather system than previous games. Rockstar has re-engineered its technology to support localized and persistent weather, meaning it could be sunny where you’re standing while a storm is clearly visible elsewhere in the distance.

Tropical storms and hurricanes are also confirmed. During severe weather, players can expect heavy rain, strong winds, thick clouds, lightning, and water running from buildings and other surfaces. Weather will leave behind evidence as well, such as puddles after rainfall, while wind can affect water, hair, and debris. Rockstar has even added realistic rainbows.

Wildlife is another area where GTA 6 is going considerably further. Leonida will contain more than 170 animal species, including over 60 types of birds and more than 30 land mammals, alongside fish and reptiles. Flamingos, alligators, manatees, pelicans, iguanas, monkeys, sharks, whales, turtles, rays, and jellyfish are among the creatures players may encounter.

Some animals can also be tracked, and Rockstar has confirmed rare creatures will be present. One of the newly shown screenshots features Jason approaching deer while carrying a rifle, suggesting hunting could also return in some form.

There will be plenty to do outside the main story as well. Confirmed activities include billiards, gyms, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off-road racing, zoos, air boating, jet skiing, and base jumping.

Rockstar has also confirmed a ride-sharing system that can be used for fast travel, complete with other passengers and conversations. Alternatively, players can spend the journey scrolling through Snapmatic, GTA 6’s social media platform.
