After almost nine years, the real-time strategy game Ashes of the Singularity is finally getting a sequel. The original game came out in November 2016 and quickly made a name for itself with its large-scale battles, detailed maps, and dynamic combat.

But even more than that, it became famous in the PC world for being a reliable benchmarking tool. Many gamers used it to test how well their CPUs and GPUs could perform, and some even think that the game was made purely for benchmarking purposes.

Ashes of the Singularity 2 announced

Now, in 2025, the sequel has officially been announced. Ashes of the Singularity 2 is coming, though it doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet. However, its official Steam page says a date will be shared soon, and a 2026 release is being targeted.

The sequel promises massive battles across enormous maps. Players will control thousands of units in real time, managing both offense and defense while reacting to the ever-changing battlefield. The game uses a system called Strategic Zoom, which allows you to zoom out and command your forces or zoom in to see the action up close. As the battles play out, the terrain itself will change. For instance, buildings will collapse and roads will break apart.

Players will also choose from three main factions. The first is the United Earth Forces, representing traditional humanity fighting to regain control of the solar system. The second is the AI Substrate, a powerful artificial intelligence led by Haalee, who views humans as outdated. Finally, there’s the Post-Human Coalition, advanced humans who have merged with technology and want to shape the universe their own way. Each faction comes with unique units, playstyles, and storylines, making every match feel different depending on who you play as.

Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock Entertainment, shared his excitement in the game’s announcement post. “Ten years ago, we set a new, literal benchmark for RTS games with massive battles and groundbreaking technology,” he said. “With Ashes of the Singularity II, we’re raising the bar even higher, delivering strategic gameplay depth that RTS fans have always dreamed of.”
