MSI Claw handheld finally gets a performance boost from latest Intel graphics driver

Table of Contents
MSI Claw is one of those gaming handhelds that, while initially having a bit of a lackluster launch, managed to pick itself up with updates that brought some much-needed performance improvements. When we tested the MSI Claw, one of the things we noted was that the use of Intel's new Core Ultra processors didn't quite work out in MSI's favor. Finally, Intel has decided to do something about that with its latest driver update.
The new Intel Graphics Driver 32.0.101.6734 introduces power management optimizations for Intel Core Ultra Series 2 handheld gaming devices with built-in Intel Arc GPUs. According to the release notes, the update enhances performance and frame pacing while optimizing low-power modes for smoother gameplay and better battery life.

Intel is picking up the pace
Now, the blue team hasn't exactly mentioned how much of a performance boost this new update brings, but it's clear that the MSI Claw should now be able to deliver much better gaming performance, even if you're not pushing it at full throttle. The same should go for the original MSI Claw and the refreshed Claw 8 AI+ model, both of which are powered by Lunar Lake.
Tencent's upcoming 3D One handheld will also be powered by the latest Intel Lunar Lake CPU and features a rather impressive 11-inch display. Since the handheld is still in development and only a prototype was shown at CES 2025, we can't yet judge how this Intel x Tencent collaboration will turn out. However, Intel's efforts to boost performance in the MSI Claw do show that the blue team is starting to step up its game in the handheld console space.

That said, if you're an MSI Claw owner, you can download the latest Intel driver update from their website. And if you're thinking about picking one up, we still think the price-to-performance ratio isn't quite there yet. Yes, these past few updates have helped it make significant gains against its closest rivals, but other options like the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally remain more popular. Plus, with so many new handhelds on the way, it might be worth waiting to see what those have to offer.
