The Pocket S2 was first revealed by Ayaneo during GDC 2025, and since then, users have been eager to test it. Now, after months of waiting, the company has officially revealed the release date for its next device. As per Ayaneo, their upcoming handheld will launch tomorrow, on June 18. For the uninitiated, the Pocket belongs to a series of Android handhelds, so it’s not quite in the same market as the likes of the Steam Deck or ASUS ROG Ally.
What does the Pocket S2 offer?
If you’re a fan of handheld gaming, you might remember the original Pocket S. It was a solid Android handheld, but it didn’t exactly lead the market. With the Pocket S2, Ayaneo is aiming to change that by giving the device a major performance boost, a larger display, and a battery that doesn’t require constant charging.
At the heart of the Pocket S2 is the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip, which is said to be much faster than the chip in the first model. It offers better graphics and smoother performance, which is no doubt an important hardware improvement for this handheld.
Ayaneo has also made major improvements to the screen. The device now has a 6.3-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. It also offers up to 600 nits of brightness, so it should be usable outdoors and in well-lit environments, making it great for those who are always on the go. High-end variants of the handheld will also offer UFS 4.0 storage, thanks to which you can expect quick game load times and data transfer.
Battery life is another area where Ayaneo has made changes. The Pocket S2 now includes an 8,000 mAh battery, compared to the 6,000 mAh battery in the previous model. This should give you hours more playtime before needing to recharge. You also shouldn’t have to worry about the handheld overheating, as the company has upgraded the cooling system to ensure it stays cool during extended gaming sessions. This includes a new large heatsink and an improved fan.
