Google Pixel products have become increasingly popular over the years, it seems like one minute they were pretty niche, and the next they are everywhere, and the Pixel Watches are no exception. This is probably due to Google’s commitment to constantly improving upon them and introducing new features that the community wants – for the most part.
New leaks have surfaced about the specifications of the new Google Pixel Watch 3, which, according to gadgets360, is expected to launch alongside the Pixel 9 products on August 31st. The leaks have surfaced on Android Headlines, and appear to be promotional material concerning the Google Pixel Watch 3.
Features and improvements over the Pixel Watch 2
According to the images obtained in the leak, one version of the Pixel Watch 3 (presumably the 41mm) has 10% more display thanks to a bezel upgrade. Not only that, but the larger 45mm watch face has a massive 40% more screen to play with. Speaking of watch faces and screens, the Pixel Watch 3 will mark the first Google watch to use an Actua display, which will reportedly double the brightness from 1,000 nits to 2,000. It’s unknown yet whether this will result in a resolution upgrade.
It’s not all hardware-focused, there have been some strides made in fitness apps, say hello to “Advanced Running Metrics” which lets you create custom workouts. The best thing about this tool is it can direct the user by using haptic and audio cues. According to the leaks, Advanced Running Metrics will tell you when it’s time to “sprint, cool down, or maintain pace” during a run.
Another improvement is the morning brief health analytics that displays on your Google Pixel Watch 3, reportedly giving you a breakdown of “your most important health metrics each morning,” and calculating a “readiness score for the day.” With this technology, the Pixel Watch 3 will be able to tell you if you’ve been working out too hard lately, or maybe too little. This isn’t exactly a new feature, as my Garmin does the very same – but it’s certainly something that’s worth adding.
The battery on the Pixel watch 3 is still set at 24 hours, which still beats Apple’s offering by a mile. The improvement made here is the 20% faster charging that Google boats over the Pixel Watch 2. Less time charging and more time running seems to be the name of the game with these improvements.
What do fans think of the Pixel Watch 3 leak?
We scoured the best place in the world, Reddit, looking for opinions on the freshly uncovered leak, and we found lots of support for the new display specifications and health inclusions. But one particular opinion stood out to us, which made a valid point. This opinion comes from AirSuspicios5057 on the r/PixelWatch Reddit thread, they say:
“Upgrading the glass is the most obvious thing to do, it gets scratched way too easily and I’m not wearing a case to make it even thicker.“
This is a very valid point, wearables shouldn’t be too thick or cumbersome, we already have a phone, so we don’t need to be wearing a watch the size of one on our wrist. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any mention of Google upgrading the glass on the Google Pixel Watch 3, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, these leaked materials might not be complete.
Multiple people were claiming the same issue on the subreddit, which gives us hope that it’s on Google’s radar and that they have done something about it with this version of the Pixel Watch.
As always, take any leaks with a pinch of salt, there could be information missing, it could be an early draft, or anything is possible, the only way we’re going to find out for sure is to watch the Pixel event on August 15th.
