New rumors suggest the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X might end up being one of the most expensive handhelds ever
Handheld gamers are eagerly waiting for the release of the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Both devices were officially revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase, where Microsoft showed off their new features and powerful hardware. But while we know a lot about what these handhelds offer, Microsoft hasn’t revealed one key detail – the price. And now, a new report suggests that the high-end model might be very expensive, possibly becoming one of the priciest handhelds on the market.
Microsoft has promised that the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X will deliver a “premium” handheld experience. They come with bigger batteries, faster processors, and many other improvements compared to the original models. A few days ago, a known Xbox leaker named Extasis claimed in a YouTube video that the base model could cost $499, while the ROG Xbox Ally X might be priced at $799. He also mentioned that Microsoft is planning to launch both models in October 2025.
The ROG Xbox Ally X could launch with a $999 price tag
However, while the October release window seems possible, Jez Corden from Windows Central has something different to say. According to his sources, Microsoft has not yet set any final price for the ROG Xbox Ally or the ROG Xbox Ally X. This is mainly because of the ongoing tariff situation between the United States and other countries.

Trade conflicts are making it harder for companies like ASUS and Microsoft to set prices for their upcoming products. In fact, ASUS has already warned its investors that the trade war could lead to higher prices. We’ve already seen signs of these price increases, as the original ROG Ally X models recently became more expensive. The 1TB version went from $799.99 to $899.99, and the 2TB model jumped from $899.99 to $999.99. That’s a $100 increase for both models, which happened in just a short period.
Because of this, it seems unlikely that Microsoft will be able to offer the new handhelds at $499 and $799, especially with all the hardware improvements. Based on what we’ve seen so far, a more realistic guess could be $599 for the standard ROG Xbox Ally and $999 for the ROG Xbox Ally X. And that’s just for the models we know about. If Microsoft decides to introduce a 2TB version of the ROG Xbox Ally X, the price could easily cross over $1,000.
