Aimed at replacing GeForce Experience and the Nvidia Control Panel, the Nvidia App was released back in November this year. It’s designed to help users manage their GeForce GPUs more easily in a user-friendly way. This app can update GPU drivers, optimize game settings, and let you control software settings from one place. However, while it’s meant to help users, the app seems to be causing some serious problems for some people.
Nvidia App reportedly causing performance issues for some users
Before the app officially launched, Nvidia tested it in an open beta. During that time, players reported performance problems. One Reddit user mentioned that using the app’s overlay caused their FPS to drop by half and also introduced input lag, while another player said their games became laggy. Further reports from a Minecraft player noted their FPS dropped from 110 to 60 after installing it. These issues ruined the gameplay experience of many, and even though the app’s full version is here, it seems the problems haven’t gone away for everyone.
Users are still experiencing performance issues with the full release of the Nvidia App. A user named Sebastian Castellanos recently posted on X about how the app ruined the performance of games like Black Myth: Wukong and The Talos Principle 2, both of which use Unreal Engine 5. While using the Nvidia App, they were getting 184 FPS in Black Myth: Wukong and 192 FPS in The Talos Principle 2, which jumped to 225 and 231, respectively, after they uninstalled the application. Poor frametime issues also point towards choppy performance and regular stuttering.
This is backed up by a post from mpr_reviews, who also details a 15% performance loss in Black Myth: Wukong while using the 566.36 driver with Nvidia App installed. Other users replied to Castellanos’s post with similar issues. One person mentioned they lost 80 FPS in Marvel Rivals because of the app. Another said they saw their game performance drop by 15% after enabling the Nvidia Overlay. So far, Nvidia hasn’t addressed these complaints or confirmed if they’re working on a fix. For now, players may be left wondering if they should keep using the Nvidia App or uninstall it to improve game performance.
If you’ve noticed performance issues after installing the Nvidia App, try uninstalling it to see if it helps. You can also avoid using the app’s overlay feature, as it seems to be a common cause of FPS drops.
