Path of Exile 2 developers are testing the game on Steam Deck
Noah Kupetsky from Steam Deck HQ recently got the chance to try the game during the Summer Game Fest. According to him, the game looks absolutely fantastic. The environments are stunning, the combat is fluid, and everything feels more refined and improved compared to the previous game. While trying out Path of Exile 2, Noah spoke with a member of the development team and inquired about the Steam Deck version. Fortunately, the team member confirmed that they are currently testing the game on the Steam Deck and optimizing it for the handheld device. Although we will have to wait for Valve to verify how smoothly it runs, we can be confident that it will be playable now that the developers are working on it.
However, one thing to keep in mind is that the Steam Deck verification system isn’t always perfect. Recently, we saw that Riders Republic was running smoothly on the Steam Deck, even though it is currently listed as ‘Unsupported’ on ProtonDB. So, even if Valve classifies Path of Exile 2 similarly, we will need to test it ourselves; even if the sequel may require some tweaks for optimal performance. All in all though, we don’t expect such a big release like PoE2 to go under Valve’s radar.
Currently, there is no set release date for Path of Exile 2, but a closed beta is expected to be held in November this year. It will be exciting to see if Steam Deck users will be able to participate in the beta.
