Released towards the end of 2025, the ROG Xbox Ally has been getting a steady injection of updates ever since its launch, as Microsoft, ASUS, and AMD continue to work closely and improve the handheld based on player feedback. Now, a new major update has arrived, bringing a wide range of changes and improvements.

ROG Xbox Ally improvements this month

Below, we’ve highlighted just some of the changes and improvements introduced in the latest update. For the complete list, be sure to check out April 2026 changes on the official Xbox update log.

Improved docked experience

With this update, the docked experience should feel closer to a traditional Xbox console. When you connect the ROG Xbox Ally to a TV or monitor, the system will now automatically switch the output to the external display and turn off the handheld screen. The system will also optimize resolution, refresh rate, and HDR automatically for the best possible output.

The update also works closely with modern smart TVs. When docked, supported TVs from brands like Samsung, LG, and Vizio will automatically enable gaming features that can help reduce latency and improve the overall gaming experience.

Auto SR is here

If you’ve been waiting for Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) to arrive, you’ll be happy to know that it ships with the latest update. Xbox first announced it was coming back in March ‘next month’, so it has managed to squeeze in at the very end of April. Auto SR was originally teased back in October last year, when Microsoft highlighted it as one of three big post-launch features.

However, Auto SR is only available to Xbox Insiders right now on the ROG Xbox Ally X. Insiders will be able to report any issues with the technology, ensuring that the final version is (hopefully) bug-free when fully released.

Bug fixes and improvements

The update also brings several general improvements that make the device smoother and easier to use. Fingerprint recognition has been improved, reducing accidental touches and making unlocking more reliable. CPU tuning options have been expanded in the BIOS, giving users more control over performance by adjusting P-Core and E-Core behavior.

System stability has also been improved across the board, which should result in fewer crashes and smoother performance during gaming sessions. On top of that, eGPU compatibility has been enhanced, making it easier to use external GPUs without issues. Some games, including Resident Evil Requiem and Crimson Desert, have also received performance and stability optimizations.

Alongside these improvements, several bugs have been fixed in this update. Issues with the ring LED not working properly after the screen turns on or off have been resolved. A problem where SPL settings didn’t apply correctly in Manual mode has also been fixed. The update also addresses a UI scaling issue at 900p, where parts of the interface could go off-screen.
