RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT specs leak online and they look competitive versus Nvidia’s 5070 series
Table of Contents
The PC gaming community has not been this hyped about an AMD product since the launch of the original Ryzen CPU, if then. Now the full specifications for the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 9070 series have leaked, many enthusiasts will be keen to see how it measures up. Well, now we can have a closer look as VideoCardz has leaked what they call the ‘final specifications’.
Radeon RX 9070 XT is the higher-end model set to launch early next month. Based on the leak, it comes equipped with 64 RDNA Compute Units, 64 Ray Accelerators, and 128 AI Accelerators. It has 4096 Stream Processors, clocked at 2400 MHz for the game clock and up to 2970 MHz boost clock. Data indicates an estimated precision compute performance of 48.7 TFLOPS.
The slightly lower-end RX 9070 non-XT is said to use the same Navi 48 GPU but with 56 Computer Units and 56 Ray Accelerators with 112 AI Cores and 3584 Stream Processors. Obviously, as a lower-end model, it has a lower clock speed of 2070 MHz game clock and 2540 boost clock.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT specs comparison
There has been a lot of discussion regarding how AMD’s new GPUs will fare against the already-announced RTX 5070 series. Starting with the XT, let’s see how it compares to Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti. It’s a close call, but it seems the 9070 XT holds its own and might even pull slightly ahead in some regards.
Specification | AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT | Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti |
---|---|---|
Game Clock | 2400 Mhz | 2295 MHz |
Boost Clock | 2970 Mhz | 2452 MHz |

Peak Throughput | 48.7 TFLOPS | 43.9 TFLOPS |
TDP | 304 W | 300 W |
AMD Radeon RX 9070 (non-XT) specs comparison
Now, the non-XT and the non-Ti variants from AMD and Nvidia respectively. Here we can see the RX 9070 seemingly offers a competitive comparison versus the 5070. It’s worth noting that both of AMD’s models stick to last-gen GDDR6 memory, but the 9070 offers more overall memory than the 5070.
Specification | AMD Radeon RX 9070 | Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 |
---|---|---|
Game Clock | 2070 Mhz | 2325 MHz |
Boost Clock | 2540 Mhz | 2512 MHz |
Memory | 16GB GDDR6 | 12GB GDDR7 |
Memory Bus Width | 256-bit | 192-bit |
Peak Throughput | 36.1 TFLOPS | 30.9 TFLOPS |
TDP | 220 W | 250 W |
What’s the verdict?
As shown, we have tried to match these AMD Radeon cards with the closest equivalent in the Nvidia 50 series lineup. The raw numbers suggest that the performance of the AMD cards should be roughly equal to their Nvidia rivals, and could be even better in some scenarios.
Of particular note is the difference in throughput on the AMD cards compared with AMD, and also the VRAM and Memory bus width on the GeForce RTX 5070 versus the RX 9070.
Of course, this remains speculative until AMD officially reveals the specs. It is also worth noting that drivers and VBIOS can make a huge impact when it comes to performance. Though the cards might be close on paper, the software and firmware can make all the difference. We’ll have to wait for RX 9070 series performance charts (either first-party or from reviewers) to arrive before we’re completely sure.
