RX 9070 XT benchmarks accidentally leaked in RTX 5070 reviews, here’s how much faster it is

It’s a busy couple of days for tech reviewers as we’re getting back-to-back launches of next-gen graphics cards. Today (March 5th), Nvidia’s RTX 5070 is being released, and tomorrow, we’ll be seeing the launch of AMD’s RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT cards. Yesterday saw the reveal of RTX 5070 reviews, giving us a closer look at the card’s native performance – rather than relying on the heavily DLSS-focused tests direct from Nvidia.
From the 5070 reviews, we learned that Nvidia’s claim of 4090-level performance doesn’t exactly represent reality (here’s how they really compare). On top of that, some reviewers have accidently let slip benchmarks for AMD’s XT card; its review embargo isn’t due for later today.
- GPU: Navi 48
- Core: 4096
- VRAM: 16GB GDDR6
- Memory Bus width: 256-bit
- Base/boost clock speed: 2400MHz/3060MHz
- Price: $599
RX 9070 XT benchmarks feature in some 5070 reviews
Eagled-eyed viewers of TechTubers have spotted some unfortunate slip-ups. It isn’t the end of the world, but performance benchmarks showing up ahead of the embargo is always a mistake, and it happens more than you may expect. In any case, two YouTubers have let a couple of tests slip. First off, Tech YES City placed an RX 9070 XT card in its 1440p benchmarks for Marvel Rivals. Looking at the numbers, he 9070 XT is around 16.4% faster on average compared to the 5070.
Interestingly, there’s also a 5070 Ti benchmark to compare against here. The Nvidia card wins out in this specific test, enjoying just over 4% better performance. However, it looks like the 9070 XT offers much better value for money, being $150 cheaper than the 5070 Ti at MSRP.

The next benchmark worth checking out is one from popular YouTuber Hardware Unboxed. Here, we don’t have framerate benchmarks to compare against, but we do have a closer look at power consumption. First of all, it’s important to note that the RX 9070 XT has a ‘standard’ TDP of 304W – but AMD has confirmed some overclocked 340W models are able to more closely match or even outperform the 5070 Ti at 4K.

We don’t know the exact 9070 XT card that Hardware Unboxed has been sent for testing here, but it seems to be one of the higher-power models. Regardless, we can see that the RTX 5070 is an incredibly efficient card with just 324W of power consumed compared to the 9070 XT’s 433W in this Space Marine 2 1440p benchmark.
