Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 beats the A17 Pro with powerful performance
According to the Geekbench numbers, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (manufacturer’s model) has a single-core score of 2884 and a multi-core score of 8840. Compared to Apple's A17 Pro chip, which powers the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the upcoming Snapdragon chip comes almost on par and even surpasses the Apple chip in multi-core performance.
The A17 Pro chip has a single-core score of 2972, which is close to what Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 delivered. Further, Apple's chip has a 7438 multi-core score, which falls behind Qualcomm's new chip by a large margin.
In addition to this, the benchmarks also revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will feature 8 cores in a ‘2+6' cluster design – this is something that has been speculated before. To put it simply, the six base cores and two high-performance cores,
The base frequency of this processor is 2.78 GHz, which may not seem like a high number all by itself. The highlight here is that the two high-performance cores can reach an impressive 4.09GHz frequency.
Interestingly, this chip is a redesign, and the original design was even more powerful. However, Qualcomm had to revise the design and bring down the performance quite a bit to increase efficiency. But even with the downgraded performance, the benchmark numbers seem quite decent.
So far, these are all the details available about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. We'll know more details when the launch draws near. Qualcomm has slated the launch of the new chip for this year. The manufacturer will release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor at the Snapdragon Summit 2024, which will take place from October 21st to 23rd in Maui, Hawaii.
