Sony allegedly has two SoCs in development for the PS6 generation, according to leaker

Even though SIE has yet to release its recently announced current-gen console upgrade in the PS5 Pro, it seems the company is already looking toward its next generation of home gaming consoles. Although details remain scarce on what will presumably be called the PS6, a leaker has come forward with more information that could potentially give people a tiny sneak peek of Sony’s plans for the future.
According to leaker Kepler on the NeoGAF forums, there are allegedly “two SoCs in development for next-gen,” which they later clarified “are for [the] PS6” in a separate post. However, Kepler did note that they aren’t sure “if it’s a [Xbox] Series X/S situation or a home console + handheld.” With this in mind, it’s currently unclear whether Sony plans on providing two PS6 models at launch or a base console and a portable gaming device that can potentially compete with the likes of the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck.

Kepler hesitantly added, “Probably one of them will be affordable at least,” which, if true, would likely be a relief for the community, especially after the reveal of the PS5 Pro’s eye-watering $700 price tag. Of course, we wouldn’t recommend taking these details as gospel since Sony hasn’t confirmed anything as of writing. That said, with the PS5 Pro launching towards the end of the year, it may only be a matter of time until more information regarding the PS6 appears.
Other PS6 rumors
Even though SIE has remained tight-lipped on its next-gen console, rumors regarding its development have occasionally popped up. For instance, back in February, YouTuber RedGamingTech claimed that Sony would stick with AMD CPUs for the PS6 after equipping the PS4 and PS5 with the AMD Jaguar and Zen 2 processors, respectively. Although Sony allegedly had discussions with other suppliers, most notably Nvidia, it ultimately decided to stick with its long-time partner.
