Steam breaks another record for annual game releases, but almost half of them have fewer than 10 reviews
Table of Contents
New games are released on Steam every single day. This has been the case for years, and the number grows with every passing year. Steam has become the biggest place for PC games, and because it is easy for developers to publish their work, more and more titles keep arriving on the store. While this sounds great for choice and variety, it also has its downsides.
In 2025 alone, more than 19,000 games were released on Steam. To be more exact, the number has already reached 19,230 games, and the final total will be confirmed next month. This is a huge jump compared to previous years. Back in 2023, Steam saw 14,109 new game releases. In 2024, that number grew to 18,559. Now in 2025, the platform has broken yet another record.
Steam game releases through the years

November 2025 was especially wild. It became the biggest month for game releases in Steam’s entire history. During that single month, 1,943 games were added to the store. That is more than many older years combined.

This leads to the main issue. Almost half of the games released in 2025 have fewer than 10 reviews. Reviews are important on Steam, as they help players decide what to buy and what to avoid. When a game has little to no reviews, it is unlikely to get much screen time, so to speak.
Looking at the numbers makes this clear. These values are ever-changing, so they will have altered by the time you read this, but these are the results at the time of writing. In short, out of 19,267 new releases, 9,370 of them have less than 10 reviews – that’s 48.6% of all 2025 releases on Steam.

One big reason for this is quality. Many Steam users have pointed out for years that a large number of games added to the store are simply not very good. Some are rushed, unfinished, or lack polish. Others are low-effort projects made just to exist on the platform. Because of this, many players avoid unknown games and stick to titles that already have strong feedback.
That said, not every low-review game is bad. Many hidden gems on Steam are well-made and fun, but never got the attention they deserved. With so many releases every month, even good games can easily be missed.
DELTARUNE is currently the top-rated game of 2025 on Steam. Schedule 1 followed closely in second place, while Dispatch secured the third spot. Overall, Steam’s growth shows no signs of slowing down. While more games mean more options, it also makes it difficult to find the hidden gems.
