The situation around Subnautica 2 just got even more interesting. In the middle of an ongoing dispute, publisher Krafton has now disappeared from the game’s Steam listing, raising a lot of questions about what’s happening behind the scenes.

Until recently, both Krafton and Unknown Worlds Entertainment were listed as publishers on the game’s Steam page. Now, that has changed as Unknown Worlds is shown as both the developer and the sole publisher. The same update has also appeared on other platforms, including the Epic Games Store and Xbox listings.

What makes this even more interesting is the timing. This change comes shortly after a major court ruling that forced Krafton to reinstate Ted Gill as CEO of Unknown Worlds. The court also returned operational control of the studio to him, including authority over the game’s release and even access to the Steam backend.

For those who haven’t been following, the situation between the two companies has been messy for months. Krafton acquired Unknown Worlds back in 2021, with a deal that included a large performance-based payout. However, things took a turn in 2025 when key leadership members were removed, and the game was delayed to 2026. The former leadership claimed the delay was intentional and tied to avoiding that payout, which led to a lawsuit.

The court later sided with the original leadership, stating that the removals were not justified and that control of the studio had been improperly taken. As a result, Unknown Worlds regained control of its operations, which may explain why it is now listed as the publisher.

Still, there’s no official explanation yet for the Steam page change. Krafton is technically still the owner of the studio, so its removal from the listing is confusing. This could mean Unknown Worlds is now handling publishing duties independently, at least for the Early Access launch.
