2024 isn’t quite over yet, but alongside the ongoing Steam Winter Sale, we also have Steam Replay 2024 (or the Year In Review if you prefer). Either way, Valve has published a long list of stats to give everyone the chance to see how they spent their time on Steam this year, for better or worse.
Some stats also give us a glimpse of what the Steam user base is up to as a whole. That includes achievements, longest streaks, and the fact players spent over twice as much time on ‘classic’ games versus something new. Another detail though is simply the amount of games you played this year – with the average being just four titles.
Steam Median for games played in 2025 was just four
You may be surprised to hear that the average number of games played among Steam users was only four, though there are plenty of good reasons we can think of as to why this is the case. First of all, there are bound to be a ton of Steam accounts with only a couple of games in their library – or at least only a couple that are actively played.
Take a look at Steam’s most-played charts and you’ll find a bunch of free-to-play titles at the top, namely the likes of Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2. Alternative accounts or smurfing (when players create new accounts to play at lower, therefore easier, ranks) are relatively commonplace compared to paid titles. We’ve come across our fair share of accounts with hundreds or thousands of hours in Counter-Strike with little to no playtime in other games.
In our case, as you can see above, we played 41 unique games throughout 2024; it’s safe to say that this is abnormally high. We often test brand-new games and do sweeping game benchmarks in our testing lab, so obviously that helps boost numbers (and makes us look good on the achievement front).
If you want to check your own Steam Replay 2024 stats, open up Steam, hover over your profile name at the top of the window, and select ‘Year In Review’.
