Just a couple of hours have passed since CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, but the launch isn’t going so smoothly for everyone. The free update (for exisiting owners of Wild Hunt) reportedly ships with an array of bugs for AMD Radeon GPU owners on the latest Adrenalin Edition 26.9.1 driver. AMD has not provided any release drivers so far.

According to user reports so far, running the game on an RX 9070 XT using the latest driver fails to load some in-game models, including entire forests, and there’s a whole lot of black artifacts. “The game is unplayable,” say gamers quick to test the new update following its release earlier today. Another user claims they have the same issue with an RX 9060 XT graphics card.

Problems with The Witcher 3 Remastered seem limited to Windows so far

It’s worth pointing out that the remaster runs fine on Steam Deck, which features an integrated AMD graphics solution and runs on Valve’s Linux-based operating system, SteamOS. One user on Reddit reports that the game works just find on Linux (CachyOS), so it seems likely the current issues are limited to Windows users. For comparison, the latest Linux driver for AMD Radeon is version 26.14.

According to TechSpot, reviewers had access to pre-release Windows driver made specifically for the remaster, but this still isn’t publicly available; the publication also highlighted that the current public driver was “effectively unusable” in their testing.

One important note concerns the Radeon driver. All AMD testing was completed using a pre-release driver specifically developed for The Witcher 3 Remastered, version 26.20.15.02. The publicly available Adrenalin 26.9.1 driver was effectively unusable in our testing, producing numerous rendering glitches.

The current GeForce Game Ready driver worked without any obvious issues. Of course, that doesn’t rule out future driver updates improving performance further for either vendor.

Updating your graphics drivers is almost always recommended as a fix for bugs and compatibility issues, but there seems to be no luck this time around for players. They will simply have to wait for AMD to release an official driver to address these early problems.
