Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that it has launched Office LTSC 2024, which is a locked-in-time version of Office 365. The MS Office – Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) is aimed at businesses that don’t need regular system updates, deal with sensitive data, or need offline capabilities for extended periods.
Back in March of this year, Microsoft rolled out a public preview of the MS Office LTSC 2024. And now, the product is available for organizations to purchase and use.
Microsoft’s new Office LTSC 2024 is suitable for businesses that don’t need system updates
In its official post, Microsoft said that MS Office LTSC is available for commercial and government customers. At the moment, the LTSC includes “a locked-in-time version of familiar productivity tools” along with updates that have been done to Microsoft 365 Apps over the last three years.
Here’s a quick overview of what we can expect from the MS Office LTSC:
- Apps included: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote, and Microsoft Access (Windows Only) are offered in this version.
- Desktop apps: All classic apps will be installed on a single PC or Mac.
- Device-based licensing: This will help in managing Office 365 apps in settings where there are multiple users of a device, such as in a hospital or computer lab
- Feature updates: Only security updates are enabled, helping the user to avoid unnecessary updates.
- Cloud storage: No cloud storage option is available.
- Internet connectivity: There is no requirement for internet connectivity, which enables organizations dealing with sensitive issues to bypass the threat of hackers.
Microsoft Office LTSC 2024 will be supported for five years under the Fixed Lifecycle Policy, ensuring that customers have access to stable and reliable software over time.
At the moment, the Microsoft Office LTSC 2024 is available only for businesses and organizations. However, the company mentioned that the product will generally be available to all customers starting from October 1st, and more information will be shared in the coming weeks.
