Valve just registered a new trademark, ‘Steam Frame’ hardware could be announced extremely soon
Table of Contents
A new trademark for the ‘Steam Frame’ has been registered by Valve. This is the first we’ve heard of this name, and it’s not immediately clear what the new product actually is, given the vagueness of the filing. There are two trademarks, covering both hardware and software, though it is expected to be the former.
One of the trademarks covers “computer game consoles for recreational game playing” and also includes accessories (controllers in particular), so we’re likely looking at one of these two things. Given the recent Valve Fremont benchmark leaks, the company may be making good progress on a new Steam Machine – which is probably running SteamOS.
Valve files two new trademarks for PC and console hardware
Two different trademarks were registered recently (serial numbers 99370857 and 99370861) on September 2nd. Aside from the expected SteamOS console, there have been a bunch of leaks and rumors surrounding Valve’s next ‘Deckard’ VR headset and the Steam Controller 2, which is reportedly codenamed ‘Ibex’.
As for the announcement date, nothing has been confirmed so far. But there’s one exciting fact we can cling to. The Steam Deck’s trademark registration was filed on July 14th, 2021 and the handheld was officially announced the following day. Now, we can’t be certain the Steam Frame announcement is similarly swift, but it’s the best we can hope for based on the Deck’s timeline prior.
We could be looking at two different pieces of hardware: a Steam Frame console and a Steam Frame controller, if we were to hedge a guess. There’s also a chance it relates to the Steam Deck 2, but that seems less likely. In any case, the prospect of new Valve hardware on the horizon is exciting, especially seeing how far the development of SteamOS has come. The original Steam Machines and Steam Controller may not have taken off, but the success of the Deck helped strengthen its software massively.

Back at the end of last year, we suggested that 2025 could be a big year for Valve hardware, considering the numerous leaks and rumors circulating at that time. As always, Valve likes to take its time before launching something new, so we’re running out of time for a 2025 launch, but this trademark marks one step closer, and we can only hope it actually gets announced soon.
