From the pits of the tech world, DDR5 rises from its bubbling pot to bring you those delicious next-generation speeds and performance. DDR5 is brand new and as such, you will need to get your hands on new motherboards to fully take advantage of the fresh RAM sticks you’ve installed in your PC.
DDR5 compatibility launches alongside the new motherboards hitting store shelves in November, with manufacturers like Gigabyte, MSI, and ASUS already loading up storefronts as seen in the accidental surfacing of the products by Newegg.
Pricing on DDR5 has been wildly all over the place, as it’s brand new, you’re going to see prices in the hundreds of dollars rather than your typical $70 for a 16GB kit. Along with the pandemic causing shortages of electronics, expect these to stay pretty high in price for at least the next couple of years.
At some point, early DDR5 kits were going for nearly $350, so be wary. Best Buy now has the Dominator version live on their site, along with some motherboards from MSI.
The kits are set to launch on November 4th.
