A video highlighting performance issues created by a clash of driver updates from AMD (and its fix) has resurfaced on Reddit this week, with some people seeing big uplifts in performance by following the fix.

If the games on your ASUS ROG Ally/X are not playing smoothly and you’re experiencing FPS drops, don’t worry; you’re not alone. Multiple users are experiencing the same issue, and it’s not because there is something wrong with your handheld’s components. Instead, it has something to do with an update that installed the Windows driver on top of AMD’s driver.

The video was posted to YouTube and shares a quick solution on how to fix the driver-related issue.

Quick fix for low FPS issue on ASUS ROG Ally/X

A few months back, Windows released a new update titled KB5038583, which introduced a bunch of new changes and improvements. However, it ended up making things worse for the ROG Ally users, as it kind of broke the AMD drivers on the device. This has been causing different issues for users, including low FPS in games.

Thankfully, ROG Ally Pro on YouTube came up with a fix for the issue. According to him, you can reset the driver on your handheld to get rid of the problem.

  • Go to the Settings of your ASUS ROG Ally and tap on Apps.
  • Search for AMD Software, tap on the three horizontal dots next to it, and select Advanced Options.
  • Scroll down and tap on ‘Reset.’
  • Once done, restart your device.
  • Open the AMD Software.
  • Go to the software’s Settings and make sure the device is running the latest version of the AMD Software.

That’s it. Once you follow the steps mentioned above, the FPS in your games should improve significantly, if the issue was being caused due to the driver related issue.
