Meta has started rolling out Instagram Premium with paid features in a few different countries
Table of Contents
Meta has started testing a new premium subscription service for Instagram, signaling a shift toward paid features on the platform. The service, currently referred to as Instagram Plus or Instagram Premium, is being tested in a few countries and focuses mainly on adding extra tools for Stories.
The core version of Instagram is not going anywhere and will remain free. However, this new subscription will offer additional features for users who want more control and insights, especially creators. One of the biggest additions is the ability to extend Stories beyond the usual 24-hour limit. Users will also be able to see if someone has rewatched their Story, search through viewers, and even preview Stories without appearing as a viewer.
Extra customization, new reactions, and more – how much does it cost?
There are also customization features included. Users can create multiple audience groups beyond the standard “Close Friends” list, allowing better control over who sees their content. Another feature called “Spotlight” lets users highlight one Story per week for more visibility. On top of that, reactions are also getting an upgrade with something called “Super Hearts.”

Pricing for the subscription appears to be relatively low in early tests. In countries like the Philippines and Mexico, it costs roughly between $1 and $2 (USD) per month, and Meta is offering a free one-month trial for new users. However, the company hasn’t confirmed final pricing or a global rollout yet.
Right now, the feature is only available in select regions, and Meta is still testing to understand what users find valuable. This means the final version could look different depending on feedback.
This move is part of a bigger trend in social media. Platforms are slowly adding subscription options to reduce reliance on ads and create new revenue streams. Services like Snapchat, X, and LinkedIn already offer paid tiers with extra features. However, Instagram Premium seems targeted more toward creators and power users rather than casual users.
