iPhone 13 Pro Max won’t turn on – possible causes and how to fix

One of the most common reasons why your iPhone is not turning on is a drained battery. And thankfully, this problem is easily solvable. You have to connect your iPhone to a genuine power adapter with a lightning cable and wait for it to charge. Once the iPhone has enough power, you should be able to turn it on and use it as normally would.

Sometimes, the charging port of your iPhone can get clogged and interrupt your charging. The port can get clogged due to lint, dust, sand, or other debris. In any case, it is good to have a look inside the port and try cleaning it. 

• Use a flashlight and try to see if there’s any visible debris
• Try using a toothpick to gently lift and remove the debris
• Try cleaning the port with a soft, lint-free cloth

If your iPhone won’t turn on and you don’t see it charging, it’s time to check if your power adapter and cable are working properly. 

Here’s what you can do to determine if your charger is working – 

• Try charging another compatible device with the charger
• Or you can try charging your iPhone 13 Pro Max with a power bank
• Change the power outlet that your charger is plugged into
• If you think your cable is damaged, try changing it 

If your iPhone was dropped, then chances are that the device has suffered some physical damage. If you have tried charging it, and it’s not working, it might mean that one or more internal components have been broken. While you cannot dismantle your phone to see what’s broken inside, you can take a good look on the outside.

• Check if the screen of the iPhone looks cracked or damaged in any way
• Try pressing the volume buttons and side buttons to see if they’re working
• Try Siri prompts or try playing any kind of audio to check if your phone is working but has a malfunctioned display

Now, a force restart is just a more powerful way of restarting your iPhone. Usually, people force restart their phone if there are minor issues. 

Since the iPhone 13 Max is a relatively new model, it doesn’t have a clickable Home button. To force restart, we will have to use the volume buttons and the side. Here’s a rundown on how to do it – 

• Press and release the volume up button
• Press and release the volume down button
• Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo
• Release the side button when you see the logo

Another way of trying to turn your iPhone 13 Pro Max is by putting it into Recovery mode. When your phone is in this mode, you will be able to update the system and even do a hard reset. There’s one thing you need to note – depending on the option 

To put your phone into Recovery mode, you will need a computer. Then, you will have an option to use the Finder or iTunes.

Here’s a rundown of how to put your iPhone 13 Pro Max into Recovery mode – 

• Start by force restarting your iPhone using the volume buttons and side button (refer to step 5)
• When the Apple logo appears, keep holding the side button and plug your iPhone into the computer
• You can release the side button when you see the Recovery mode screen on your computer
• Then, you will have the option to Update your system without erasing the data or Restore the system by deleting all the data
